Puppies are naturally curious and mouthy. They pick things up to investigate them and they examine them by feeling them with their mouths. Remember that puppies don't see as well as we do. They start by smelling, then by touching, when they examine something new. To stop stealing, try teaching the trading game. Keep something your puppy really likes in your pockets at all times. Potty training should be affective in any age. I have trained a deaf, blind 17 year old western terrier (very stubburn breed) I strongly suggest a doggy door. The most importent thing in potty training is. DON'T SCOLD! The dog will get the wrong idea, thinking that you are scolding it for using the bathroom, and try to hide it in an area- often in the house. Instead after feeding it (make sure to have feeding scheduals) take it out and wait until it uses the bathroom. When it does, praise very much and give it a treat. Puppies can be in their crates all night. Just make sure you let them out to go to the bathroom right before you go to sleep and as soon as you wake up in the morning.

You should get a crate that is just large enough for the puppy. If you want to buy a large crate because your dog will get bigger, then stick a box or some kind of separator in the back of the crate to make it smaller. This makes it so that the dog will not want to go to the bathroom in its bed.

Pretty soon, they were old enough to go outside on their own, and liked it, so no problem training them to go outside to do their business.
