Dreams and Dream Interpretation

The psychological, scientific and spiritual explanations of the process and functions of the images and experiences we undergo while asleep and the interpretation thereof.

8,170 Questions

Do people dream about you when you dream about them?

It's possible you never know. But if you do want to know, you could always ask them, 'What do you dream about sometimes ?'

Another response:

No. Dreams occur within your mind. Your thoughts can't be heard or seen outside your own head, and your dreams don't have any effect on anyone else unless you tell them about your dream.

What does it mean when you dream about driving all the time?

This dream is an illustration of your "drive" to constantly keep moving forward. It suggests that you are putting your efforts and energy into "getting somewhere" in the sense of success or of making something better of yourself.

What does it mean to dream about receiving the kiss of death?

There are as many different opinions for interpretation of dreams as there are people that do it. It depends on who you ask.

The mechanism of why we dream is not fully understood, by anyone. That it is a function of the sub-conscious is fairly well agreed upon but there are many theories as to why and how we dream.

People have different solutions with the conscious mind when presented with the same data, it is far more difficult to explain the functioning of the unconscious one.

It is, however, a practical certainty that there is no pre-cognition involved.

If you dream you trip and fall and that happens then you would remember that dream and claim it is a sure sign of the predictive power of dreams. If you do not trip then you would neither mention it nor remember it.

The hits are recorded the misses are not

What does it mean if you see a black wolf in your dream?

A wolf in a dream represents an untamed aspect or instinct from the unconscious. Usually, the dreamer is required to befriend the wolf, and integrated this untamed aspect into the individual's day to day personality.

What does it mean when you dream about your crush liking another girl?

it means he might like another girl.

or maybe it's showing how insecure you are.

tell him about your crush, before dream turns into reality.

Another response:

The term "crush" usually refers to the object of one's infatuation, and often that person is totally unaware of being adored from afar. Also, the crush is often an inappropriate love object, perhaps too old, married or even a celebrity with no actual relationship to the person experiencing this love. So approaching the crush to confess one's feelings, particularly on the basis of a dream, can be a very bad idea with potentially embarrassing or disastrous consequences.

> Dreams express the dreamer's own thoughts and emotions. They do NOT provide any insight into anyone else's feelings. So this dream reveals the dreamer's own fears and insecurities.

What does it mean when you have a sex dream with your male friend?

Perhaps you have a crush on them or maybe someone accused you both of being in a same-sex relationship together. Of course, marriage in a dream could just symbolize commitment or a relationship. Dreams often don't distinguish between levels of relationships. A dream like that could simply mean that you and your friend could use some space.

What does it mean when you constantly dream about your boyfriend?

That just means you really are more attached to him than you thought. Now if he is fufilling those dreams, well your relationship may just be lust, but if you like him for more than that, then it is perfectly okay to and you shouldn't worry. Trust me, i have had dreams about my boyfriends before...

What does it mean if you dream of being stuck in a building?

The interpretation of this dream depends on whose house the dreamer is stuck in. If it is the dreamer's own house, it means that one is somehow stuck in one's own life without enough input from and interaction with the rest of the world. It's time to get in touch with other people. If the house is a strange place, or someone else's home, the dreamer needs to figure out what the house represents. Is it the workplace, meaning the dreamer is stuck in a dead-end job? Is it the parents' home, suggesting the dreamer needs to cut the apron strings? Or is it the house of the ex-spouse? In that case the dreamer needs to find closure and move on with life.

Well, It could mean something, or maybe you did something the night before like watching a movie that bothered you? Or, it could just be the random dream night. you have more that 20 dreams a night, EVERY night, but you do not always remember it..

What does it mean to eat coconut in the dream?

Any dream of eating rotten food suggests that you have been taking in something vile and unhealthy. This might not refer to actual food but could represent ideas or teachings or even persons that are harmful. On the conscious level, you may be unaware of the "rot," or you may be in denial, so your mind puts the information in a dream.

What does it mean when you dream about someone dying their hair?

It means you really wish he had a different hair color

If the question is meant to be about "dying," rather than "dyeing," it might have one of several meanings. It could suggest that the boyfriend is undergoing a significant life change, in which one stage of life is coming to an end, and a new stage of life is about to begin. For example, graduation can represent "dying" to childhood. A different possibility might be that your boyfriend is no longer a part of your life, so the dream reflects your feeling that he is "dead" to you.

What does it mean when you dream your friend is cheating on her husband and the guy she is cheating with dies saving her?

Dreams illustrate the thoughts, feelings, and memories of the dreamer in symbolic images and metaphors. This dream reflects something in the dreamer's own life; it does NOT provide any information at all about the friend or the friend's relationships.

> The message of this dream could be that the dreamer is "cheating" in some way that is going to lead to a bad outcome. This need not be a sexual cheating or even about relationships. For example, the "cheating" might refer to something like deciding not to get the car tuned up. This "cheating" could lead to a serious breakdown costing far more money than the tune-up. That is only an example, but it shows how the dream is a metaphor.

Does dreaming about falling teeth means someone is having a baby?

This dream refers to some project or task the dreamer is developing. The teeth suggest that the project could pose some kind of danger, or perhaps will be more powerful or potent than anticipated.

What does it mean if you have a dream about hiding from someone?

In this dream, your sister represents some part of yourself or some period in your life. Dreaming of hiding her suggests that you would like to conceal or forget about this particular part of yourself.

Why do you fear trees which are tall and dark?

This is an excellent example of an image from what Carl Jung called the Universal Unconscious. It is likely that all human beings share a common fear of tall, dark trees. It is an image that hearkens back to the most remote human ancestors who had good reason to fear predators lurking in tall dark trees. Those who did not fear such situations became prey, while those who feared and avoided those dark trees survived to pass on their genes ... and their fears ... to modern humanity.

What does it mean when your ex-boyfriend has a dream that he got you pregnant?

dreaming of being pregnant means a new begining in your life.

Now I'm guessing that the fact that its your ex could mean that you want to start a new relationship with them or..... that your starting a new life on your own but your ex still plays a big part in your life or at least in your thoughts.

depends on how you feel about them, dreams are our way of making sense of our feelings and emotions in visual form which is why they can be so cryptic.

What does a dream mean when a green snake bites a loved one?

A snake in this context would represent evil or treachery. The color green could represent life, growth and fertility, but in this dream it probably symbolizes jealousy. Together, the dream suggest that the loved one has been harmed by jealousy.

Is deja vu dangerous?

NO. Deja Vu happens to everyone, and it's neither harmful nor weird. It just happens. also it is said it happens when the brain goes ahead, and the body stays behind, then when your body gets there, you already lived that!, although, its just a theory.

What does it mean to dream about adoption?

It means that you have been given or that you are about to take on responsibility for something that originally belonged to someone else. Beyond that, further information about your specific dream would be needed for any meaningful interpretation. Note that this dream does not necessarily predict any future event but expresses your experience or tendency at this time.

What do it mean when a rattlesnake bite your child in a dream?

Dreams communicate through symbols. The snakes in this dream probably represent people who are saying things (biting) that are hurtful to your child. Alternatively, the child might symbolize something you have worked on that is important to you. In this case, the criticism would be aimed at your work.

What does it mean when you dream of being run over?

Dreaming of death by getting run over by a car does not forecast an actual death. It is a symbol for being overwhelmed by something beyond the dreamer's control. The danger could be work, a school assignment, a problem at home, or just about anything that comes at you without warning and leaves you feeling overwhelmed. Dreams produce literal images in the same way language uses dramatic phrases such as "she bowled me over," "I feel like I've been hit by a truck," and "he just ran right over me." We know the speaker was not actually hit by a truck. Dreams work in the same way.

What does it mean if you dream you cant open your eyes?

Not being able to see in a dream could be a metaphor suggesting that the dreamer is "blind" to something important in real life.

just to confirm you are dreaming just not seeing in the dream? if you cant see your dream then it means you fit around 30% of the population that has no knowledge of any dreams and sleep black screen. general belief is that the brain does not reach a perfect serotonin level to force the brain into a true sleep state. (not sure i spelt that right). while not damaging at all it makes dream analysis harder on this group of people. honestly though i would not worry. as sigmund freud once said "a dream is but a dream, a realm of thoughts and hopes where one can never be harmed". while some dreams have underlying issues causing the dreams a dream is never anything to worry about.

What does it mean when a spider crawls on you in a dream?

In dreams, spiders usually symbolize something unpleasant, frightening or threatening. You normally would want to get the spider off yourself as quickly as possible. So this dream suggests that you have a potentially threatening problem that is very close to you, perhaps even something such as an illness. It brings to mind a brown mole or other skin problem that should be checked by a doctor.

How does a person learn lucid dreaming skills?

ANSWER 1:

Follow one of the many techniques like MILD or WILD to induce lucid dreams. Keep a dream journal and record all dreams.

Steps to Improving Lucid Dreaming

1. Throughout the day, while you are awake, ask yourself, "Is this a dream?" anytime something odd happens or even when nothing out of the ordinary happens. The trick is not to answer the question with an immediate "Of course I am not dreaming!". Come up with a consistent way to check if you are awake or asleep. For example, checking the time on a clock and then quickly check it again. If you are dreaming, the time will always dramatically change at the second glance. Or if you are reading something, look away and then read it again. Again if you dreaming, when you look at it the second time, whatever you are reading will be completely different. As you keep asking yourself this question during the day, the question will become second nature. You will ask the question during your dreams. And when you do your check to see if you are awake or asleep, you are well on your way to lucidity.

2. Identify your dream signals. These are objects, images or actions in your dream that serve as cues or markers to let you know that you are dreaming. Anything can be a dream signal and is unique to each individual dreamer. It may help to read through your dream journal and select an image that seem to constantly appears in your dreams. By selecting a recurring image, then it has a better chance of appearing in your future dreams. When you are ready for bed, tell yourself that "when I see an apple, then I know I am dreaming." or whatever dream signal you have chosen.

3. Use your dream signs to let you know that you are dreaming. When an anomaly or something impossible occurs in your dream, instead of ignoring it or trying to rationalize it, let it be an indicator that you are dreaming. Some common dream signs include flying, walking through walls or the appearance of someone who is dead in real life.

4. Finally encourage your lucid dreams, but do not force them, as your efforts may have an opposite effect. It is important to relax and be patient.

As you improve your lucid dreaming, you can even learn to "write" your own dream scripts. Your sense of smell and touch will become heightened. Before going to bed, tell yourself what you want to dream and what area you want to explore.

Excellent question. There are dozens of way, but for a beginner, i recommend the MILD (Mnemonic Induction of Lucid Dreams), technique this is the simplest and easiest to learn type of lucid dreaming.

Before i get into it, let me tell you some pros & cons

Pros: Easy, Once you do this the first time you've done it correct, and will get easier and easier.

Fast, Doesn't take much time unless you Don't stick to it.

Cons: Requires devotion - start slacking off and you'll stop doing things that get you lucid.

Chances - Since this isn't a advanced technique, you'll get a lot of results the better you get, but you won't always get lucid.

So here's what you do.

1. This is a very basic thing that you must do. Reality checks. What is this you ask? Well it's checking weather or not you are sleeping. For example, and in one of my cases, Something impossible happens lets say, Fish are flying in mid air. Once you notice your brain will say "That can't happen." But you can't go lucid like this alone, much less often. You can't hear your brain speaking to you very well. Once your brain signals you in sleep, you will do your dream check procedures. Make up your own, but these are recommended, and are usually 90% effective (By my estimate. Hold your nose shut and try to breath. Unless you have holes in your nose, you'll breath through them even when closed. Do i while reading this, did yo breath through them or not? If you did, you're dreaming. Look at your hands. Common times they will be missing fingers, or will be reverse. Check right now. And finally look at an object and see if anything on it changes, like a poster, see if the text changes, or a person or something. DO NOT use clocks. They change numbers and may make you think you are not.

2. form a schedule- Well this is done one of 2 ways, everyone and a while, like an hour, or whenever something suspicious happen (Like flying fish), I would recommend a mix of both for maximum potential.

3. Sleep time- If you go to sleep and wake up in 9 hours, or a few minutes, you will probably not remember any dreams. Don't think you just didn't dream. Everyone dreams every night, but as life goes on they forget their dreams, and so the night just appears blank. Try this: Set a timer to go off at a predesignates time, like 5 hours, 6hours, 4 hours, 7 hours, anytime you feel comfortable with, when you find the right time, put it down on any device that has an alarm. But! Put it on an alarm that goes off by its self after a while. When woken up, stay absolutely still. Try as hard as you can to remember ANY dreams at all. By the way, as you do Dream recall sessions more often, you may find that 1 night might have several dreams, 1 dream cuts off and an other one starts. This also opens up opportunities for WILD technique, but you'll get into that later.

4.Dream recall- You should start doing this to remember your lucids first, weather or not the dream was lucid is not important. Make a journal, online or on paper, and write down your dream, don't write down the most epic novel at 4 AM in the morning though! You can do that when you've finished sleeping for the night. For the Mid-night (Not midnight, this can happen anytime) awakening, just write down key concepts, like people, phrases, and most importantly --

5.Dream signs - Reoccurring things that happen in dreams that are otherwise impossible in real life, flying fish, purple hippos, swimming birds. Though weather or not it is impossible is not necessary. It can be people, fictional characters, phrases, places, anything! Recognise your dream signs and you will most likely go lucid.

This is the most basic way i can tell you this, but if you want i recommend going to Dreamviews.com to see more tutorials.

ANSWER 2:

Keeping a dream journal will only help you remember that you have had dreams, and perhaps help your memory. Many people who feel the need to increase or induce lucid dreaming tend to do so for purposes of spirituality, to increase creativity, personal inquiry, etcetera. Personally, I find asking myself "am I breathing?" as opposed to "am I dreaming?" to be more effective and grounding. It comes down to your diet, health and breath work.

If you want to lucid dream consult your primary care provider or a neurologist about supplements that you can take that will increase the likelihood of lucid dreaming. Such supplements include but are not limited to: Zinc, Copper, Vitamin B6, B12, melatonin (tryptamine), huperzine (increases focus, but do not take more than the recommended doses as you might have headaches later), potassium, etcetera. You may also want to take such supplements on a light stomach before sleeping, with a slice of lemon, lime, or other alkaline. It may take a few days to notice the effects. Nicotine taken shortly before going to sleep can also increase lucid dreams, however I would personally advise against it as Nicotine is a neuro-toxin, and has the potential to trigger unpleasant dreams. Getting outdoors, exercising, practicing yoga (especially Kundalini), meditation, controlled breathing exercises, etcetera also induce lucid dreams. I recommend the supplements that I previously mentioned along with kundalini yoga as they increase the health of your pineal gland (what yogis refer to as the Third Eye chakra), along with other glands and the body's overall circulatory system. Increased blood flow to the brain keeps it aware and prevents too much deep sleep.

You may want to also consider doing stretches just before resting, and getting into a comfortable position that you are able to breathe very easily in. Avoid loud noises and distractions during your attempts, while focusing on your breath work. If you are not breathing or if you exercise too hard (lift too much weight, over exhaust yourself in running, or are otherwise injured) you might not lucid dream but go into a deep dreamless sleep.

There are also various dream herbs and teas that one can purchase throughout the world, however even these are not a guarantee for lucid dreaming as it depends on preparation, dosage over time, and one's health. Then there are also ways to trigger such lucid dreams that are not safe without a controlled environment such by fasting or skipping a night of sleep which causes the DMT within the pineal gland to over accumulate and flood your mind the next night- but note that this is not advisable as it does harm your body and mind if done too often. Fasting is effective because it makes the pineal gland release more DMT during sleep because your body will think that it is dying, and death or near death experiences usually trigger massive releases of DMT throughout the body thereby triggering Out of Body Experiences and/or Astral Travel. There are also methods of preparing DMT from various plants for consumption, although this is only legal in particular religions and medical labs- and these cases do not involve lucid dreaming so much as waking hallucinations.

Also, there are people who claim that sleeping on beds with frames made of copper or metals with similar properties tend to have increased inductions of lucid dreams. However, I have not looked into this much and dismissed it as an old wive's tale. I believe this theory or claim is based on an idea that the human body works much like a conductor of electromagnetism and that the copper somehow increases or spreads one's aura body which acts as a type of field around the human body. It might be more of a placebo effect, however I have not studied this personally.

Again, I advise against nicotine, fasting (unless you are with someone who can respond appropriately in the event of an emergency), and skipping sleep. Skipping sleep may have long term detrimental effects to one's health provided that some people who skip sleep for more than 3 nights report visual and/or auditory hallucinations while asleep. You may also want to reconsider your diet to see if you are eating enough vegetables and fruit- you want to make sure you have fat in your diet, but you have to make sure you are getting no more, and no less, than what your body requires based upon size, gender, blood type etcetera. If you are feeling sluggish and/or bloated, you might want to consider whether or not you are adequately stretching, exercising, and whether or not you are getting too much or not enough nutrients.

Also, if you do fast consult a doctor, your clergy and/or perhaps a yogi to ensure you do not jeopardize your life, that you are doing it for the right reasons, and that you are breathing properly. If you do decide to fast, make sure that you are not straining your body through exhaustive work, that you regularly meditate, monitor your glucose levels, and that when you decide to stop fasting make sure you consume a high protein diet to help repair your muscles and the body's overall synthesis of amino acids. If you get your protein from animals as opposed to whey, soy, etcetera make sure it is lean. I personally tried fasting for six days and nights and had lucid dreams and out of body experiences on each attempt after the first night... but it is not for everyone and should only be done when you have time off from work. The astral projections/travel are indeed more interesting than lucid dreams provided that you are able to move through certain doors and walls, and is something that I hold sacred within Gnosticism and yoga.

Finally, after you have looked into all of the previously mentioned methods you can always try these final two methods:

1. Consult a hypnotist- if you are able to hypnotized you will be able to lucid dream, or at least control your lucid dreams, via hypnotism.

2. Purchase a REM Dreamer Lucid Dreaming Induction Device- and read the instructions before attempting to use it for better results.

What does it mean when you have a dream your getting murdered by your mom or family?

That you are perhaps worried about your mother, that maybe something you feels is distancing her from you or you feel that she is going through a fragile stage in her life.

It could also mean that you have sub-concious paranoia about losing your mother or you feel that something is coming between you and her.

It could also be in another mood, maybe you think that your mother is guilty of something and needs to be penalised or is in danger of being punished for it.

Think about anything that she may have done - if you can't then think about anything that could be distancing you from her, perhaps a new father figure or has she had another child?

Or is there anything that makes you feel she is in danger, perhaps she is currently going through an illness or a tough time.

If the answer to any of these is yes then that'll be what it means.

What does it mean when you dream about a cow that is hurt?

This dream's meaning depends on your own attitude toward cows. That might seem odd until you consider that a butcher would regard a cow quite differently from the way a member of PETA would think of a cow. Again, there are cartoon cows and dairy cows, money cows (sources of easy income) and "cows" as a derogatory expression for women in general.

> Using the idea of a "money cow," your dream suggests that something you expected to provide a source of easy income has been damaged or jeopardized. Alternatively, if the "cow" represents the beef industry, the dream might reflect your anxiety about the discovery of horse meat in the global food system.

> Remember that this dream is somehow about YOUR feelings. The cow represents something specific in your own experience that has some sort of cow-like qualities.
