Eminem first got involved with rap and hip-hop life when his uncle Ronnie introduced it to him. Although Ronnie was Eminem's uncle the two boys were very close in age and as they grew up they became very close friends. Ronnie and Eminem wrote raps and break-danced together and after his death Eminem fell into depression. Awhile after Eminem decided to continue with rap and did his best. He then got a deal with multi-millionaire Dr. Dre. Eminem has a tattoo that is dedicated to his deceased uncle which says: "R.I.P Ronnie".

Edit: I think Eminem did have a rival back in '05 I think it was when Ja Rule dissed Halie Jade Mathers, Eminem's daughter, in the song Loose Change.
