Helping an emo or even changing them is usually impossible in most cases. i used to be emo and my suggestion is to find someone they are very attached too this person must have an emotional tie to the person you are helping or changing usually you need get this person to change the perspective of suicide and life for the emo but this is not recommended as it can cause an emo to be even worse than they were before

You dont have to have really short layers and side bangs to have scene hair.
Straighten your hair dead straight. I mean dead straight. Just give your hair a really far side parting, sweep the hair over to create a "fringe" and use a cute bow clip, tease the bottom part of the top section of your hair, and hairspray. Lots Of it. Get some clip in coloured extentions. Clip these under the teased hair, so you cant see where the have been clipped, but you can see the colour.
EDIT: And back-comb it under the top section of hair so its very big at the top, and thins towards the bottom.
