What happens when your injured when you already have fibromyalgia?
Often people with Fibromyalgia find that hey heal slower than healthy people. If you sustain an injury make sure to have it checked out by a Dr and follow their orders. Do as much as you can to rest the injured area and allow for healing. The more stress you experience the harder it will be to heal. Make sure to follow a good diet and a regular routine. If needed, you may want to seek out physical therapy to help you regain strength and learn how to properly use your body to avoid further injury.
What common questions should you ask a massage therapist about fibromyalgia?
Before you see any massage therapist you should ask them if they are familiar with Fibromyalgia and how it impacts the body. They should be aware of the general tender points and trigger points. If you do not feel comfortable with their level of knowledge, you should seek a different therapist. You should ask your massage therapist what type of massage they feel will best benefit you, and how often you should return for best results.
It is just as important to make them aware of how Fibromyalgia impacts you personally, since each patient is affected differently. Be sure to point out to them areas that are currently bothering you or that you prefer they avoid. It is also important that they are aware of any medications that you are on. It is important to keep an open dialogue during your massage. You should speak up if lying in a specific position is causing pain, or if they are applying too much pressure. Remember, a massage should not increase your pain. Also, remember to drink lots of water after a massage. Often, massage will allow the release of toxins, and increase lymphatic drainage, drinking water will help cleanse your tissues and provide a better result.

ANSWER:
Other pain medicines that may work for the pain are Tylonol w/ codeine, ultram, or darviset. Anything stronger tends to hurt things more than help in the long run. Also Ibuprofen does not help in most cases but if you have over exerted yourself you may have inflammation and Ibuprofen helps with inflammation which may reduce some of the pain. Fibromyalgia doe snot cause inflammation but normal inflammation that many people experience will magnify pain in many fibromyalgia patience. Since Ibuprofen does not help with the initial pain most people with FM will not try it again. Or they will only try 200 or 400mg which also will not work. 800mg at times when you have done more than your body can handle.

Has anyone had successful treatment for fibromyalgia?
I have linked a site that shows you how to correct imbalances in your foot, which is the main cause of fibromyalgia pain. Most fibromyalga treatments revolve around doctors or medical professionals treating the symptoms of fibromylaiga--even the natural approaches mentioned below. While they can improve and lessen some of the pain, the main problem of fibromyalgia still persists, thus the most effective treatment would be one that corrects the cause of fibromyalgia. Visit this site for more information, I hope all of this help: http://www.FibroFreeLife.com
AnswerThere are all sorts of "natural" treatments you can try. Magnets, various health food remedies are some of the products offered. However, many of these do not help and may make it worse, so be extremely cautious. I have a related disease, that has fibromyalgia as a part of the condition. Part of the problem is the viscious cycle of fatigue and pain. For many illnesses, you would rest and hope to get better. However, with fibromyalgia, you want to keep up your muscle tone so that you don't get as fatigued with activity. Water aerobics, short walks, yoga or pilates are helpful. And then, you rest. If you get massages, avoid the deep tissue massage and inform your therapist of your condition. Also reduce the amount of preservatives in your food, avoid overly processed foods and high fat. The Arthritis Foundation magazine often has very good, helpful articles. AnswerCurrent pharmacologic treatments for fibromyalgia include a variety of medicines. The only medicine approved by the FDA for fibromyalgia is pregabalin (Lyrica). It is similar to gabapentin (Neurontin), which is an older medicine. Certain types of anti-depressants have shown benefit, mainly the tricyclics such as amitriptyline (Elavil), and norepinephrine/serotonin reuptake inhibitors such as duloxetine (Cymbalta). It is important to find a physician that is knowledgeable because the doses of these medications for pain management is often different than doses for their indicated purposes. It is also important to make sure that you actually have fibromyalgia. Lots of different conditions can cause the symptoms of fibromyalgia, such as thyroid disorders, sleep disorders, depression, vitamin deficiencies, etc.
The only analgesic indicated for use by patients with fibromyalgia is tramadol (Ultram). Over the counter pain medications typically have no effect and chronic opioid use can increase your sensitivity to pain.
I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia a year ago and found significant benefit with Cymbalta and a stimulant for fatigue, but everyone is different, so you should make the decision with your doctor. I tried physical therapy and acupuncture. I thought they both helped a little, but not enough to justify the costs. Massages are nice to get from time to time.
AnswerI found a good source for you with a newsletter that will keep you up-to-date on more successful treatments, but also teach you how to handle Fibromyalgia:There are local chapters in most areas now of the Fibromyalgia Network. This organization produces an excellent newsletter which is well worth getting. Here's how to contact them:
Fibromyalgia Network 5700 Stockdale Hwy, Suite 100 Bakersfield, CA 93309
Info line: 1-805-631-1950 from 10am-2pm Pacific Time Publication: FM Newsletter (quarterly); $15/yr USA, $17/yr Canada
There is now a test that will soon be out of clinical trials. www.autoimmune.com
Once this test is out since it is a blood test fibromyalgia will be more accepted and pain management will be easier to get.
Tylenol with codeine works for many patience and although there are debates of addiction most pain management doctors know the difference between addiction/dependency. The pain does not get worse with a low dose of analgesics. Ultram works for some patients also and is easier to get prescribed. Lyrica helps with certain aspects of the FM. Like the restless leg syndrome and things like that but not so much with the over all pain and stiffness. A mild muscle relaxant also will help with some symptoms but only a few are approved such as flexural although Soma seems to help more if you can handle the drowsiness and a doctor will prescribe it. Amitriptyline, clonopin and medicines like this can help with the depression, anxiety, and in some cases the sleep disorders. Most over the counter pain medicines do not work but 800mg of Ibuprofen seems to help on some days. Although fibromyalgia does not cause swelling of the joints if there is any inflammation at all it will aggravate the fibromyalgia symptoms of pain, therefore when in severe pain Ibuprofen 800mg helps. There is not one medicine that is a catch all for fibromyalgia. Different medicines work for different people many times you and your doctor will have to mix and match until you find what works for you. Most of the treatments on line will help your pain in one way. they will lighten your wallet or pocketbook so not to put too much strain on you. Stick with a healthy diet, moderate exercise, and a pain management doctor that believes in and knows the disease.
I'm not too sure but it's a physician's medical point of view, not the patient's.

What can cause fibromyalgia pain to get worse?
Any number of things can cause Fibromyalgia pain to worsen, including diet, exercise (too much or too little), stress and weather. Every patient is different and needs to take time to learn their own limits and discover what activities or choices impact their symptoms.
When it comes to exercise there is a very delicate balance required. If you don't stretch regularly and try to do light exercise your symptoms can worsen as your muscles and fibers tighten due to too little use. However, too much exercise can cause stress on your body sending you into a "flare".
Weather seems to impact most Fibromyalgia patients. Many report that barometric changes create the largest impact. Many find that their symptoms increase as weather fronts move into or out of their area. This is especially so when dealing with storm fronts.
Any sort of stress can also impact Fibromyalgia pain and symptoms. This includes emotional and mental stress, as well as physical stress. This is one reason why many find it hard to continue to work. In addition to the fatigue that they face with Fibromyalgia, a stressful work or home life can severely increase Fibromyalgia pain and symptoms.
What antidepressant is prescribed more than others for fibromyalgia?
There are two antidepressants commonly used to treat Fibromyalgia, they are Savalla and Cymbalta. Both Savella and Cymbalta are serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRI), similar to many other antidepressants; however, it is not considered an antidepressant, and is approved for the treatment of Fibromyalgia. Cymbalta, however, is used to treat not only Fibromyalgia but also depression, anxiety, and diabetic peripheral neuropathy. A doctor may prescribe either of these for Fibromyalgia. As with any medication, different people react differently so one may work better for a particular person than another. It is important to understand that doctors do not prescribe these medications to Fibromyalgia patients to treat depression, but rather because they have been proven to decrease the joint and muscle pains associated with Fibromyalgia.

Can fibromyalgia cause memory loss?
"Memory loss is not a common symptom of fibromyalgia but it has been reported."
This is the comment I responded to, before I realized there was a discussion area (new to Answers.com). I wish I could cut/paste that comment into this area, but I will have to try for a summery. Lets talk about this!
As an FMS sufferer for 10 years, I completely disagree with the notion that FMS does not commonly cause memory loss. I believe there is a stigma associated with being an FMS patient, and some people tend to hide having it, or its symptoms, especially if they are still in the work force. I was - for 5 years after being diagnosed, and I will tell you, it became more and more difficult to recall things I have known for many years, things I was known to be expert at!
My other comment was that many friends and associates with FMS all agree to the memory loss symptom, but to varying degrees. I believe and have proven to myself that exercising the brain is the smartest thing you can do, with or without FMS. Crossword puzzles have proven to stimulate brain cell growth or activity, reading, learning a new language, etc. So, it IS, but it doesn't HAVE to be, is my belief. Comments?
Will a Doctor believe an 18 yr old Male claiming he has Fibromyalgia?
It is rarely a good idea to self-diagnose yourself. Doctors typically do not take it seriously. If you believe you have Fibromyalgia you should report your symptoms to your doctor and be fully evaluated. Once you have been diagnosed by a physician, if other doctors do not believe you, you will have medical records to show them. Unfortunately, there are a large number of doctors that still do not believe that Fibromyalgia is a real disorder.
