What are the oldest pair of hockey skates made of?
The oldest pair of (ice) skates known date back to about 3000 B.C., found at the bottom of a lake in Switzerland. The skates were made from the leg bones of large animals, holes were bored at each end of the bone and leather straps were used to tie the skates on. An old Dutch word for skate is "schenkel" which means "leg bone".
By the time a reasonable precursor of hockey came along (originally known as Ijscolf, or Colf on ice), the skates were handcrafted by blacksmiths from iron and/or steel. No two pair were alike as the craftsmen used patterns of their own design. Essentially, the skates consisted of blades of iron and/or steel embedded into blocks of wood which were in turn strapped to the skaters boots with either leather or rope fittings.

There are many different thigs that you can wear.
If you are indoors, you obviously don't want to be wearing a winter jacket, because you would be way too hot. But if you are outside and in the cold, you probably want to wear more layers, but also things that aren't going to make you the most un-aerodynamic thing out there. If you wear a sin suit, like most skaters do, I personally wear a warm, long sleeve shirt and then the suit over top (when I'm outside) But when I'm inside, i simply wear compression shorts and my skin suit.
And then you have to wear skates and a helmet and all that too.

Skating on a pond does not sound very safe. The wheels will slide on the ice and you will fall. Try skate boarding in a skate park or on the side walk. Also wear a safety helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, and all that good stuff. It will protect you if youI fall. If you SKATE on a pond make shore that the ice is very very thick! Not necessarily, though you may have a bit of an advantage in learning over someone who's never skated at all. One of the big issues is the same as that between roller skating and roller blading: skates automatically remain vertical; blades want to tip over to the side.
Difference of speed skates and figure skates?
The recreational skate is not designed for the speeds that the figure skate is. It is a "crossover" between the figure skate and the hockey skate. It is not designed to be as precise in turnings and stops as the figure skate. However, if you do not wish to invest in figure skates for the novice (just in case it's another whim) recreational skates are a good option. Around the 14th Century, the Dutch started using wooden platform skates with flat iron bottom runners. The skates were attached to the skater's shoes with leather straps. Poles were used to propel the skater. Around 1500, the Dutch added a narrow metal double edged blade, making the poles a thing of the past, as the skater could now push and glide with his feet (called the "Dutch Roll"). In 1848, E. V. Bushnell of Philadelphia, PA invented the first all steel clamp for skates.
