Actually , the answer previous to mine is not entirely correct. That person forgot to take into account the live-bearing fish, such as poecilids, gooeids, and anablepids. In these fish, the male has a structure called a gonopodium, which is a modified anal fin. This organ is used much like a penis in "higher" animals. The male gets right up next to the female and injects her with sperm via his gonopodium. Sometime after fertilization, the female will give live birth to baby fish, called fry. Some of the well-known fish that fall into this group are guppies, mollies, and swordtails.

you can put an algae eater in with any tropical fish, I even have a goldfish in with my tropical fish now for almost 8 years. Pet store say no but i beg to differ. 8 yrs going strong, gold fish, algae eater, angel fish, silver dollars. Some fish are more dominate over others. I have learned no matter what they are if they are put in the tank, all as new fish as the same time, they all get along. After one dies, then as time goes on a new one has to earn its peck so to speak, so new ones get picked on. I have an algae eater and a cat fish. all is good.

Well, I caught an adult gambusia fish at my baby cousin's third birthday party, in a lake. My cousin is now five years old. I have had it for three years and it was an adult when I caught it. (I know because after I caught it, it had a baby!)

Fish are definitely in danger, due to over fishing, pollution, and man kind. Fishermen fish for fish and continue to fish for fish that is not needed. People pollute to water and litter, so animals cannot breathe in the water and cannot get out of the trash they get stuck in. People need to help take care of the ocean and fish.
