Where did flag football come from?
The game of American football has been played since the mid-1800's. By the 1940s, flag football was all the rage on U.S. military bases as servicemen chose up sides and played against each other. Since America could not send football-battered soldiers into combat, tackling a ball carrier to stop him was replaced with the safer practice of grabbing a flag attached to his clothing. When the flag was taken, the player was stopped. -AJ
What does lace out mean in Australian Rules Football?
The term "lace out" has generally been used by commentators in the past to describe a perfect foot pass to a leading forward. The kick used is generally a drop punt, which spins backwards, the ball is kicked to a leading forward who marks it on his chest "lace out", referring hypothetically to the main laces at the area where the ball is pumped up. (Not the stitches that connect the four pieces of the ball but the main laces at the top centre.) So, when the forward has marked this ball on his chest, the back of the ball is hugged to him and theoretically the laces of the ball are facing outwards... it's not anything that is ever practised or realistically is aimed for, it is just a piece of verbal hyperbole used by the commentators when they say, "Look at that, delivered lace out to the forward", as if the delivery was perfectly crafted, gift-wrapped and delivered as if the ball was perfectly spun and landed symmetrically on the guy's chest.

Who is the best AFL player ever?
Answer:
Placing a question like this is as 'opening a can of worms'!!
The only safe thing that can be said is:
Haydn Bunton Snr has won more national/state Best and Fairest awards than any other player with 6: three Brownlow Medals in Victoria, then three Sandover Medals in WA.
From there, countless other names may be put forward, among them being: Laurie Nash, Dick Reynolds, Tony Lockett, Gary Ablett, Alex Jesaulenko, Leigh Matthews, John Coleman, Peter Hudson, Graham Farmer, Darrell Baldock, Russell Ebert, Barrie Robran, Ted Whitten, Ron Barassi, Jason Dunstall, Bob Skilton, Wayne Carey and the list becomes almost endless among names any one of which may worthily be considered "the best ever"!!!
If we were simply to mull over the greatest ever ruckman, for instance, we would probably have to vie between John Nicholls and Graham Farmer ... and that is just for the one position!
How long is a piece of string??!!
What types of jobs are there in a football club?
The answer to this question depends on what level the player played at and how successful his career was. Assuming we are only talking about NFL players, realize that a backup quarterback who ends his career after two years will have far different options than a star like Tom Brady. Such lesser known players may take coaching positions or become newscasters, or they may simply move back into the general working population.
However, all players with full careers make enough money that, with careful planning, they can retire comfortably and never have to worry about working again. Still, many players do not simply disappear into obscurity. But, while football players are almost always college graduates, they do not generally use their degrees to embark on a new working-class career. Some start their own business ventures or invest in existing ones. Others sign lucrative endorsement deals. Or they may continue in sports in a coaching role. It is also common for more famous and charismatic players to become sports commentators. Some may even try their hand at politics.

How many players in afl match on the field in one team?
There are 18 players that are fielded/playing at any one time.
It has been the practice for quite some time for AFL [Australian Football teams] to top list 25 players as being available. Over generations of the Australian football game, the number of players 'in reserve' has changed immensely. For many decades, the team was permitted only 2 in reserve, but with the ruling that once they came on, they had to stay on - there was no 'interchange'. The interchange allowance rule came about 40 years ago, initially with only the two, but then soon permitted 4 interchange players. That has also gradually increased.
The key element, however, is that for generations now, there has been only 18 players permissable on field at any one time, although one large association used to play only 16, but that was rarely followed by any other leagues
When the AFL wanted to better promote the game internationally, especially to accommodate the smaller overseas fields, smaller markets and the smaller following, playing numbers in various countries have been reduced to 15 players and, thereafter, to as few as 9 players per side (to my knowledge).
Of course, even within Australia, many of the locals or people on picnics, etc., will knock up mock games with as many as they have available, and simply shorten the field.
