Is a player down if the football hits the ground?

No.

A player is down when his knee or back touches the ground. If the ball carrier loses the ball before this happens then it is called a fumble, and both teams try to recover the ball and whichever team does gains possession.

Yes. The only thing allowed to touch the ground without you being 'down' is your hands and feet. We even have interpretation questions on whether the wrist and ankles are part of the hand/feet to determine if a player is down.

If the ball touches the ground, the player is considered down. This is why the ground cannot cause a fumble.

If it was a pass and the WR was deemed not in control of the pass, it is known as a dropped or incomplete pass. The player has to have complete control, but the ball can touch the ground. This is determining the completion of the catch, though, not whether the player is down or not.

How many points is a hail Mary pass in football?

None, by its own merit, completed or not. Should it be completed, and run for a touchdown/caught in the end zone, standard scoring conventions apply.

Does a high school kicker use a kicking tee for field goals?

A kicker in high school is allowed the use of the standard 1in. kicking tee. It will help give the kicker the height he needs for the points to be good. But in college and the NFL, tees can't be used, so a high school kicker will have to adapt to the change.

What does F-L stand for when taking stats in football?

Hard to say for sure without seeing the other stat abbreviations.

90% sure that it means Fumbles Lost.

If a punt is kicked out of bounds is it a penalty?

No. The kicking team is penalized if a kickoff goes out of bounds, but on a punt, the ball is put in play for the receiving team at the point where it goes out of bounds.

Is a player on the receiving team of an onside kick allowed to bat the ball out of bounds?

No this is a penalty that will require a rekick. Notre Dame attempted this against Navy this weekend 11/15/08

A player comes off the bench to tackle the other team?

Pretty sure that's illegal in the game of football to just come off the bench to do some tackling and not even play the game and it's possibly an ejection. Also, I don't think it's actually possible for any one player to tackle a whole team.

Is there a football penalty intent to deceive?

There is no evidence that such a penalty exists in any football league currently.

What are the different penalties in a football game?

Holding, offsides, pass interference, encroachment, roughing the kicker, roughing the passer, face mask, clipping, tripping, personal foul, hands to the face, illegal contact, chop blocking, intentional grounding, false start, delay of game.

When the entire offensive line sets then stands up and looks at the sideline for the play as Auburn does how is that not a false start?

This is a shift. An illegal shift would include if the offensive line attempts to simulate the beginning of a play. Also, the Center is allowed to move if he hasn't placed his hands on the ball. Once the center places his hands on the ball, he must keep his hands on the ball until it is snapped. I'm not talking about an illegal shift. I'm talking about a false start. Maybe they're the same thing, but the referee calls it a "false start", so that's what I'm going by. Now. If a false start/illegal shift is when "the offensive line attempts to simulate the beginning of a play", as you say, then 99% of all false starts would not be called false starts, because it was ACCIDENTAL, and therefore, there was no ATTEMPT to simulate the beginning of play. But that's not the case. Any time an offensive lineman makes any significant movement, intentional or unintentional, after the line is set, the lineman gets a flag for a false start. So, once again, the question is: Why is it not a false start when the entire offensive line sets, then stands up and looks at the sideline? This is a far more significant movement than 99% of the stuff that gets called for a false start. Please note: I'm not saying that Auburn should be penalized 5 yards every time they do this. What I'm saying is that there is obviously some loophole in the rule that I'm not aware of that lets Auburn get away with it. So, in essence, what I'm asking for is for someone to explain that loophole to me, or to explain the rule in a way where this is not against the rule. Thanks.

How many players are on each NFL football team?

There can be no more than 53 players on an active team roster.

There is also a stipulation that a team may only carry 45 players on its game day roster, so the team must decide each week on which 8 players will be inactive, or 7 if they carry a 3rd quarterback.

Why does the NFL have sudden death overtime instead of an equal possession rule?

That question was asked in many rule changing portions on the offseason, they ARE however thinking of changing the overtime rules to the college type overtime, in that overtime, each team gets a chance to score from the opponents side of the field, if they score, the opponent must score the same amount of points (touchdown or field goal) to still have a chance, but if they don't score, they lose. There's no news on IF they're going to make the change, but the teams in the NFL who have lost in overtime a lot certainly want the change soon.

How can an NFL team play 16 games in season if there is only 15 other teams in their conference?

In any given season an nfl team plays every team in its division twice. Then the schedule of who else they play, within their conference, is on a cycle. Every year it alternates to a different division. Then the team also play one of the four divisions from the other conference. Now they have 14 games. The remaining two games are played against one team from the remaining two divisions in their conference based on schedule. And that's 16.

How far behind the line of scrimmage can a player go to kneel the ball?

You don't have to be behind the line off scrimmage to kneel the ball. Anytime you kneel a football you are giving up your right to advance it (Though you may not be downed yet). Therefore you can kneel it as far back as you want. If you were on your opponents 5 yard line you could snap the football as the QB and run back 90 yards (perhaps to burn more time) and kneel it then.

Time or length of a professional football game?

The English FA says that a match must be of two halves each of 45 minutes with an interval of not more than 15 minutes.

Any agreement to alter the length of time must be agreed in advance - such as in the likely event of bad light, and must abide by competition rules.
