When a football team scores a safety why does the other team kick off to them?
NFL teams change possession following each score, as I'm sure you know. After "Team A" scores a touchdown or field goal, they kick the ball to "Team B."
One unique aspect of a safety is that it's the only way to score in the NFL while NOT in possession of the ball.
So if Team A forces Team B into their own end zone for a safety, Team A gets two points...and the ball still changes possession following a score.

If you are behind the line of scrimmage it will just be recorded as a punt, and possession will change at the point it went out of bounds (although there may also be a penalty for ineligible downfield if you have receivers (other than the two men on the end of the line) beyond the line of scrimmage).

This question is not asked very well as it only applies to the offense. The offense must have at least 7 players on the line of scrimmage. These can include receivers. It does not mean that the offense must have 7 linemen. Offensive players not on the line of scrimmage must be at least one yard back. The defense, on the other hand, is not required to have any players on the line of scrimmage.

Yes it is a live ball and if the kicking team recovers they still have to get the first down and if the defense recovers its a turnover.
The ball is live, however, the kicking team cannot regain possession of the ball unless the receiving team touches it first.

On the front line, there are five down linemen (marked with "X"), and two other players. In my example the extra two are one wide receiver and one tight end. The players on the end of the line are eligible to receive passes.
Any player coming out of the backfield is eligible to receive a pass (SR, WR2, RB)
On certain trick plays, the QB can hand off the ball and then subsequently receive a pass, so the QB is also an eligible receiver.
