Usually foxes are scared of adult humans, but may not be so scared of children or small pets. Foxes are apt to get rabies, so it is better to avoid them if you see them. As we invade their habitat with houses, etc. we are more likely to see wildlife in our neighborhoods. These are not Disney animals; they can be dangerous. Give them plenty of space when you see them.

What is the main reason the red fox is endangered?
It was endangered a long time ago because in the 1800's the red fox was considered pests to people. So they poisoned their food sources, trapped then, and hunted them in vast amounts. Also around 1900, many where killed accidentally from predator control programs that where aimed at removing (killing) wolves, coyotes and ground squirrels from the prairies. Today people still hunt them and trap them for their furs. Also they hunt them for the skill it takes to kill one because they are very clever and good at escaping predators.
Where does the black fox live?
The silver fox is a melanistic form of red fox (Vulpes vulpes). Silver foxes display a great deal of pelt variation: some are completely black except for a white coloration on the tip of the tail, some are bluish-grey, and some may have a cinereous color on the sides. They may occur anywhere the red fox is found but are quite uncommon. Most black foxes are raised in captive conditions for the fur trade.

I was cycling to work and a fox was on a rounderbout (150 yards) and i said with a muffled voice "i wont bother you and there will be no problems" - it diddent - the fox started approaching me as i was walking with my bicycle - i kept on walking with the bike keeping it between me and the fox but the bloody thing kept getting closer (4 meters by now) i turned my head away for a moment and it had gained 3 meters on me in moments - needless to say i was not hanging around i skipped into my bike and pedaled as hard and as fast as i could under an adrenaline burst - IT CHASED ME for 300+ feet keeping up with me - i used every gear sequentially to get away from it and im glad i did.
