Sir francis Bacon discovered the theory of plate tecktonics. This is the theory that the Earths crust is made up of plates that were origanally atached to each other and separated. The plates are floating on the mantle. The plates are still moving today; that's why we have earthquakes.

Francis Drake came from a modest family and was the eldest of twelve sons. After his family fled from religious persecution in his birthplace in Devonshire, DrakeÕs father switched professions from farmer to vicar and obtained a position ministering to men in the KingÕs Navy. It is at the Medway that DrakeÕs father was able to obtain an apprenticeship for his eldest son on a barque that transported goods to France. Drake was so good at it that the master of the barque bequeathed the vessel to him at his death.

Drake probably used a compass as it was a very important tool at that time and without possibly the help of an astrolabe. It would be impossible for him to tell which direction he was going

As with all explorers of the time he would have liked to have found a water route to Asia. He was also a Sea dog and raided Spanish ships for the English crown. He also wanted to keep the Spanish out of the Pacific.

According to the latest research as of 2008 in Garry Gitzen's "Francis Drake in Nehalem Bay 1579, Setting the Historical Record Straight", Drake never set foot in what we know today as California. The California landing story was made-up by false claims of a fake plate of brass that was supposedly left by Drake and ignoring previous scholarly research by Zelia Nuttall and 16th century maps by Hondius and Van Sype.

He is a famous explorer from Illinois that circumnavigated the world,,, he went all the way around the world in about 4 years,,, and about have way home he had to but half of his sovineirs in the sea because his boat was gettin to heavy to carry all the wait and would have sank.

Yes….Sir Francis Drake was not just an explorer, we was, at one time, second in command of the English naval fleet. He was in many engagements in where many lives were lost during battle. He also put to death a fellow explorer under the accusation of committing which-craft.

He sailed with 8 ships, most of them galleons; The Golden Hind, the Pelican, Mary, Santa Maria, Christopher, Swan, Ladan, and Judith.
