How did Rudy Kato Rangel Jr from Chicago died?
Rudy Rangel, aka Lil Kato, was shot three times in the head with a .45 while getting a haircut at 11:30pm in a trailer-based barbershop along side the Helping Hands car wash at the corner of Roosevelt Rd and Sacramento Blvd on Chicago's Southside.
According to his "bodyguards," his shooter was a young black male, although it is not known anyone was ever arrested for his murder.
Rangel was a Latin King, and while he was the former Inca (Leader) of the Trumbull/25 Section in the Southside Mexican neighborhood of Little Village, he didn't really have a leadership role anymore. That doesn't mean he didn't still have a lot of pull with the gang anyway, because he was a "Big Balla" that moved a huge amount of cocaine through Chicago.
He had made so much money that among other things, he opened a successful music label and had produced music videos for DMX and Fat Joe. These alone made him worth more than a million in "legit" funds. And this is what might have got him killed, because leaders in the gang were envious of his cash and status and had demanded he give more money to them. He didn't do it but they couldn't kill him outright because the Trumbulls were one of the largest and baddest sections in Little Village and his father was one of the OGs of the Kings and was the bodyguard for Raul BK Gonzalez, one of the gang's two Coronas, or ultimate leader.
So basically, Fernando "Ace" King, Rangel's rival, contracted the murder out to Kenny "Shine" Shannon, a ranking Vice Lord in whose neighborhood the barbershop was, and bribed Kato's bodyguards to set him up. That's how he died!

How are gang members families in danger?
I was related to a gang member so I know why gang members relatives might get killed. Some gang members want revenge so they will kill someone related to the gang members their rivals with. Also gang members may be looking for a rival, and if they find out where they live they may go and do drive bys which results in a relative in the home being killed. Also I had a friend who lived in a neighborhood where there were rival gang members. I wasn't too comfortable being around there because if they know I'm related to someone in a gang their rivals with I could get killed. I was a teenager back then so alot of teen boys or girls in a rival gang could harass me and shoot or stab me. Also some gang members could kill teens or adults related to people in other gangs who tell on them to the cops. One girl whose brother was in the gang gave the cops info she heard from a boy at school about another gang that might of been involved in the crime. That gang was investigated and figured out some girl related to someone in another gang told on them so they went looking for her. Also people related to or dating gang members will often get offered rides by the gang that their relative is in or girlfriend/or boyfriend is in. That could result in a dangerous situation. There was one incident in the 90s a girl whose cousin was in a gang was offered a ride by 3 guys in the gang her cousin was in. She agreed to take the ride. Minuets later they were at a stop light and 4 rival gang members were turning up the street in their car. they stopped when they saw the gang and started arguing with them. Then they pulled out guns and they shot the gang member in the back seat and the girl. they both died and the gang member in the passenger seat was rushed to the hospital. It's also possible for rival gangs to offer rides to people they know are related to gang members and then kill them. They offer the person a ride and the person will say no and in order to lure you in the car they will say they are in the gang. So these kids are naive and will get in the vehicles and they end up getting killed.
