Unfortunately not, both are very social creatures! If you have a gerbil in a cage with a rat they may fight or even kill each other. So please don't put them together it's not safe for the rat or the gerbil.

Yes they can but i wouldn't advise to give them much because the bread will swell up/expand in the gerbils stomach. so f i was you i'd give them like a large crumb or something by the way dont give them bread everyday, only as a treat from time to time.
What does it mean when a gerbil breaths quick?
A heavily breathing gerbil could mean a respiratory infection. Is the fur puffed up? The eyes half-open? These are also signs. Make sure that you are using appropriate bedding and NOT cedar, pine, or any scented bedding, as these are the main causes of allergies and respiratory infections in gerbils.

How do you get your pet gerbil to like you?
ermmm, well gerbils are quite hyper animals anyway, and dont really tend to 'like' people. But I can now get my gerbil to sleep in my hand and do obstacle courses. It kinda depends on their personality, for example i have a gerbil who i have hand fed loads, and she is still completely mad, but the other one a lot more friendly and calm.
- Basically hold them as much as possible, but show your the boss, if you don't want it to something, dont let it (dont be violent lol). The more you hold it, the tamer it will get.
- Try giving it treats like milk/ chocolate drops from time to time (make sure you buy them from a pet shop).
- They love being allowed to run, so put them in a bath tub (plug closed) or a ball and when it wants to get out, take it out, then it should be a bit calmer.
- They will get calmer as they get older.

The green apples are too sour for them, and large amounts of red apple, or given to the gerbil frequently, can cause them to crash from too much sugar, which could kill them and any small animal.

You stop it. Simple. There are many ways to stop it. If you have lots of paper (napkins, toilet paper, tissues), you should blow your nose first to get the blood out. Then, you can lean backwords and pinch your nose in between your eyes, but some say that that makes the blood go to your throat. You can also lean forward and pinch your nose hard so it hurts to try to stop it, or pinch your nose at the bottom, or pinch it lightly. Pinch for a short while and check the blood. Then, when the blood is gone, put vaseline in your nose.

My book on Gerbils says that you can only give cereals that are plain, have low sugar and no corn, so you can find more edible cereals by just looking on the side of any packet of relatively plain cereal. Just check it has no corn in it and that it doesn't have too much salt.

They are very good climbers are jumpers. The don't often climb, but when they do it is quite impressive. Just be careful that they wont hurt themselves if they fall!
They will climb up your jumper onto your shoulder. some will just sit there, others will crawl onto your back, be careful not to squash them, and if you're nervous about that, just try and make sure they don't climb on you too much!
