How do you teach a gerbil its name?
Just keep repeating it and it should stick.Or if that doesnt work you could get your pigs favorite fruit or veggie and hold it across from it and say your pigs name until it comes to you.
HOPE THIS HELPS! :)
What do you do if your gerbil ate a tiny bit of orange?
It is not a good idea to feed your gerbil an orange for those who don't know.
I would keep an eye on your gerbil and make sure he doesn't do it again. If your gerbil becomes snappy, woozy or less active take him to the vet's if your gerbil eats watery food it will get diarrhea
What does it mean when a gerbil has one eye closed?
no it might just have somethin in his eye or is going to sleep or as u said it might be dying slowly ToniRulez says IT'S DYING SLOWLY IT PROBABLY JUST HAS EYE GUNK IN IT'S EYES
Unfortunately not, both are very social creatures! If you have a gerbil in a cage with a rat they may fight or even kill each other. So please don't put them together it's not safe for the rat or the gerbil.
Why do gerbils sniff other gerbils butt?
Its just something they do to get to know eachother better, like a dog or cat.
Can you use sand instead of sawdust for gerbils?
Bedding is better otherwise the sad will get in their eyes. Sand should only be used in a sand bath so they can clean themselves.
Yes they can but i wouldn't advise to give them much because the bread will swell up/expand in the gerbils stomach. so f i was you i'd give them like a large crumb or something by the way dont give them bread everyday, only as a treat from time to time.
What does it mean when a gerbil breaths quick?
A heavily breathing gerbil could mean a respiratory infection. Is the fur puffed up? The eyes half-open? These are also signs. Make sure that you are using appropriate bedding and NOT cedar, pine, or any scented bedding, as these are the main causes of allergies and respiratory infections in gerbils.
If the condition persists, contact your local vet.
How do you get your pet gerbil to like you?
ermmm, well gerbils are quite hyper animals anyway, and dont really tend to 'like' people. But I can now get my gerbil to sleep in my hand and do obstacle courses. It kinda depends on their personality, for example i have a gerbil who i have hand fed loads, and she is still completely mad, but the other one a lot more friendly and calm.
=)
How long does it take for a gerbil to give birth after it is bred?
Around 72 days, this may vary a few days depending on the size of the litter.
Can you get sick from gerbils?
Lots of ways: * High humidity makes them susceptible to diseases * bite infections- fighting gerbils * Poisoning - spoiled fresh food and poisonous houseplants * Parasites - check your animals thoroughly for diseases. parasites can come from new gerbils
Do gerbils pee more than hmsters?
No gerbils are originally from dessert places like Mongolia so they naturally conserve water so they don't need to drink much and they don't need to urinate as often as other rodents.
Should you get two boy or two girl gerbils?
Two girls wont fight and two boys won't fight. However, if you put more than two girls together this is more of a chance for a fight to break it. If you are planning to get a trio, i highly suggest all males.
Yes, but only very, very tiny pieces and every once in a while. NEVER give them alot of red apples or ANY green apples unless you want to make them very sick- and if a gerbil gets sick, it crashes (and possibly dies).
The green apples are too sour for them, and large amounts of red apple, or given to the gerbil frequently, can cause them to crash from too much sugar, which could kill them and any small animal.
It depends on the breed of dog. Larger breeds will probably just ignore a gerbil, but smaller breeds, ie rat terriers and some others may hunt a small animal like a gerbil because they were originally bred to hunt rats.
How can you help a dieing gerbil?
i love animals of all kind, but my friend had put her hamster down b/c it was very ill and suffering. What she did is put it is a bag, turned on her car and put the bag over the exhaust pipe. Not sure if that helps, hope so tho. Nothing deserves to suffer.
What do you do when you have a bloody nose?
You stop it. Simple. There are many ways to stop it. If you have lots of paper (napkins, toilet paper, tissues), you should blow your nose first to get the blood out. Then, you can lean backwords and pinch your nose in between your eyes, but some say that that makes the blood go to your throat. You can also lean forward and pinch your nose hard so it hurts to try to stop it, or pinch your nose at the bottom, or pinch it lightly. Pinch for a short while and check the blood. Then, when the blood is gone, put vaseline in your nose.
mine weigh about 4-6 ounces, maybe a little heavier.
Is a gerbil one of the Saharan desert mammals?
Their tails give them a larger surface area, so they can cool off faster.
They have fur on the bottom of their back feet to protect them from the heat of the sand.
The gerbils have a thin layer of fur on their body to protect them from sunburn.
What kind of cereals can gerbils eat?
I did some research on it and found that Harvest Morn Malted Wheaties and Shredded wheat should be okay.
My book on Gerbils says that you can only give cereals that are plain, have low sugar and no corn, so you can find more edible cereals by just looking on the side of any packet of relatively plain cereal. Just check it has no corn in it and that it doesn't have too much salt.
Can gerbils eat red or black bugs?
Gerbils are mostly herbivores, and only eat bugs when the opportunity presents itself. Bugs that they can eat are mealworms and crickets; however, do not give them the beetles or pupae that grow from mealworms, or other bugs to be safe. Also, since gerbils only get bugs occasionally, only feed them an insect two or three times a week at most.
well what do you mean climb - if you mean do monkey bars then NO !
the wires hurt their feet but if you are talking about wild gerbils they might climb but you need to expand the question to get a more specficic question !
omiai:
They are very good climbers are jumpers. The don't often climb, but when they do it is quite impressive. Just be careful that they wont hurt themselves if they fall!
They will climb up your jumper onto your shoulder. some will just sit there, others will crawl onto your back, be careful not to squash them, and if you're nervous about that, just try and make sure they don't climb on you too much!
