What ever you do, DON'T try to have a different mother nurse them. The mother wont accept the baby's and might Kill/eat them! You'll have to bottle-feed them, or have the birth mother do it.

You want to find a curious gerbil that, while it may run away from movement, will still stick its head out and sniff at you. If you're buying from a breeder, the gerbil is likely to be socialized, and may come right up to you. If your gerbil is not socialized, it isn't very hard to do so, it just takes a while. You want your gerbil to be active during most of the day (gerbils are not nocturnal, they are diurnal, which means they basically take naps and don't prefer day or night sleep), and the gerbil should be sleek and slim, but not skinny. Make sure to look for bright, shiny eyes, too.

Yes. In fact, giving your gerbil a variety of fruits is good for them. Don't give them too much though. If given too much, the amount of sugar within the fruits could hurt them. Sunflower seeds are one of the major foods that gerbils tend to eat. If given fruits, make sure they are about the size of the gerbils head to keep it safe.

It would usually become dizzy or IT will shake as in it is scared so I wouldn't do that.

It depends how you treat them. If you treat them nicely then they will probably be nice to you, but if you are mean to them than they will probably bite you or run away from you. Most of the time it depends on how you treat them but sometimes you can accidentally chose a gerbil with a bad attitude then it will always be mean to you.

The only huge difference is that in a fish tank the gerbil wont flick things out through the bars, and in a tank your gerbils will also be tame faster as they have no place to hide. but a cage could be more fun for a gebil if it has lots of levels, ladders and platforms - but you could always add these to a tank with a bit of difficulty.

Some characteristics/behaviors of gerbils are as follows:

Food competitive:

Once they have found a desired piece of food they run to the nearest corner and eat there sometimes facing the corner.

Thumping:

Gerbils thump when startled or when they hear a threatening noise (banging, clapping,vacuming, etc;)

Jumping:

Gerbils will jump if startled or if there is something on top of the cage

Nest building:

Gerbils will gather bedding/wood chips in there mouth and bring them to a corner to prepare a nest for sleeping

Grooming:

This is when a gerbil quickly licks their hands and began to stroke their heads or lick the legs sides or genital area

Stretching:

They began to walk while stretching out there back legs and then quickly snapping back to normal

Scratching:

Gerbils will often scratch excessively in a corner of the cage. This is really random but frequent and unknown. This happens when they are in tanks so GLASS TANKS ARE BEST.

It is in a gerbil's nature to sleep alot. Although they are not strictly nocturnal, they can be as active in the day as they are in the night.

• If i was you i would take the parents away from the gerbils because after you have touched the little gerbils it will have your smell on them so the parents wouldn't recognise them and after a bite they will eat them

They change colors a little once in their life: when they molt. They molt their fluffy baby fur and get a glossy adult coat when they are around 8 weeks old. Their color doesn't change much, though.

Yes. My Gerbils were very easy to tame.
