Yes, gerbils are wonderful! Hamsters may be the more popular pet, but why? They are nocturnal and get grumpy when awoken, which leads to excessive biting. Gerbils are diurnal, and take naps throughout the day, but are awake when your children are. Gerbils also bite far less than hamsters. And, best for the parents, gerbils are desert animals and therefore produce less waste, causing their cage to take longer to smell bad! If you purchase your gerbil from a breeder, they will most likely be more tame and healthier than those you can buy at a pet store. A responsible breeder will have spent more time with the pups, working to make them hand-tame and making sure they have all they need to be healthy. Check with the American Gerbil Society to find a breeder in your area.

That's just my opinion; I could be wrong. I believe that the father/father figure provides some basic needs of their daughters. 1) Security. A good father provides the security so that his daughter knows she is safe and that he will protect her when she needs protecting. 2) A good father will provide Love and proper affection. This will help his daughter know she is loved for who she is. This should help her know how valiable she is and she can save herself for marriage and know that that is ok to do. 3) A good father should love her no matter what. Even when she does make mistakes. He will put her arms around her and let her know they will work through things together. Thair are still consequences to making bad decisions but they are easier when you have someone who loves you their by your side. 4) A good father should shoe his daughter how a Lady shouldbe treated by demonstrating it to his Wife. talk is cheap and actions speak louder than words. There is no set amount of time that gerbils need to chew but they do have to have chew toys available all the time otherwise there teeth will grow too much. They should have a variety of chew toys. You can buy shop chew toys made out of wood usually or you can use things around the house like paper (not newspaper) loo roll tubes and toilet paper. You can also use branches of wood like fruit tree branches but nothing with thrones. Make sure there is always something to chew on because gerbils can totally chew up a loo roll within hours.

The best way is to keep playing with them. But you want to give them treats from your hands. If you have one of those "run about balls" They make great toys for them to play in Your gerbil will be happy if you give it a wheel yo run in, along with food and water daily.

You would need to take your gerbil into to see a Veterinarian to check him or her out. It could be a cancerous lump, or a fatty tumor, etc. but only your Vet would be able to diagnose this.

Yes, I would. I have 2 adults and 5 pups myself. They are faithful companions with beautiful coats. They are much cuter than pet guinea pigs, mice, rats, and hamsters. They also bite less than them.

In the choice of buying a rodent, I would choose a gerbil, but watch out!! When you go to the pet store, hold the gerbil you want. This is very important. When I went to the pet store, I thought one gerbil was SO cute, then I held him. He bit the fire out of me and blood was pouring out of my finger onto the floor. If they do bite you and you bleed, (which gerbils bite very very rarely, and the females mostly bite.) try to squeeze most of the blood out, because they are rats, and as we know, some have diseases. So good luck finding a gerbil!

The general rule is one gerbil needs 10 gallons plus 5 gallons for each additional gerbil. Such as 10 gallons for 1, 15 for 2, 20 for 3, 25 for 4, 30 for 5 etc. Anything smaller, and they WILL fight- sometimes to the death- for more room. Anything bigger, and you may find yourselves with an all out brawl with your gerbil group, since they would've split into two clans. It is recommended to use a fish tank with a mesh top or a reptile tank for your gerbils, as the chew through plastic and will escape the plastic and wire cages commonly sold for use with gerbils.
