Let me explain a few holes in your facts. The old guy is NOT the butler, he is the (SPOILER FOR PLATINUM, diamond and pearl this is major spoilers) guy who was Rotom's buddy. Ghosts come back because they are disturbed. And this guy is looking for Rotom. The little girl might really be human while the old man might be a ghost.
ROTOM is not staring at you, because ROTOM has blue eyes. And he lives in machinery. The eyes are red, so I believe it must be gengar. The picture and the Butler were explained. The girl is unexplainable.

It depends what your house is haunted by:
you could hear sounds that your not surposed to hear
things moving (either, when your about or when ur out of the room)
dark figures
actual figure (this could mean parts - especally feet and hands)
smells (perfume and gross smells are most common)
But most of all tempatures. Whenever something of paranormal passes by a location, that locations is commonly of a low temperature. You may feel that the room may be colder then it should be or you may walk from a hallway that is of warm temperature, and enter your bathroom finding it freezing.

My grandmothers house is haunted by my uncle who killed himself 3 years ago. It has since then been confirmed by a psychic medium that my uncle visits virtually everday. There are always wierd things happening, like very nice smells coming from nowhere, and temperature changes. We arent afraid of him though, as we know he wouldn't hurt us and doesnt mean to scare us. Remember to not panic, and do not fear the good ghosts, they could just be your spirit guide! i think that the way you see the future is also important eg; you cant just make a lucky guess and call yourself a fortune teller can you?
i think that the way some people can see the future is either in a dream or daydream. i personally think that a vision of the future is like a memory, but a memory of what hasn't happend yet. that's why loads of people claim to see the future in a dream - because dreams are sometimes past events, you could dream about an exiting experience like skydiving a while after you did it.
yes, i do believe that the future can be told, but the future is ever changing so don't think that just because you saw the world ending, means it will soon.

These steps must be repeatable in order to dependably predict any future results. Theories that encompass wider domains of inquiry may bind many independently derived hypotheses together in a coherent, supportive structure. This in turn may help form new hypotheses or place groups of hypotheses into context.
Among other facets shared by the various fields of inquiry is the conviction that the process must be objective to reduce biased interpretations of the results. Another basic expectation is to document, archive and share all data and methodology so they are available for careful scrutiny by other scientists, thereby allowing other researchers the opportunity to verify results by attempting to reproduce them. This practice, called full disclosure, also allows statistical measures of the reliability of these data to be established.
In summation: For something to exist it has to be proven. This is how we escaped the dark ages - using reason and logic.So, for now, ghosts do not exist.

The above is what people like to say but it is untrue. The reason they are found in dark places is because they are easier to see around dark places. Also when energy emitted from them hits a mirror or something shiny they take a different wave length that is more visible. Ghosts absolutely hate to be around other ghosts, they prefer a one ghost per territory rule more than they do prefer to work with other ghost; the only reason you sometimes see ghosts grouping together is because they are forced to by a ghost leader (it's true). The only real place they will enjoy is the human body.

While the above answer does make a few good points, there are a few unfounded assumptions. Such as "When energy emitted from them hits a mirror or something shiny they take a different wave length..." generic "energy" has no "wave length" and therefor nothing to be distorted by a reflective surface. There are few if any recorded accounts of ghosts being more visible in "shiny objects" though Hollywood loves to capitalize on the concept because it certainly is a frightening one.
Also, there is NO recorded evidence of a "ghost leader" or any set of ghost rules by which ghosts must abide. Ghosts are limited primarily by their own "strength" (that is, their ability to collect and redirect ambient energy) and whatever code of moral conduct they subscribed to in this life, and subsequently hold to in the afterlife. We can't say for certain whether a ghost is, for some reason or another, bound to a specific place, or whether they simply prefer to stay put, but ghosts rarely move from one location to another. There have been recorded cases of several ghosts dwelling in the same location, but they are usually linked in some way (for instance they were family members in this life, or they met their untimely end on the same occasion).
The answer to your question is that ghosts have varying motives for staying around (it is commonly accepted among paranormal researchers that the plane of existence upon which ghosts dwell that allows them to have limited contact with this realm/dimension/ plane of existence, is not the final destination for the human soul). Ghosts are like zombies, very single minded, zombies exist only to eat, they have no other purpose. Ghosts on the other hand "exist" in a nearby plane of existence only because they, for some reason or another, can not, or have chosen not to move on to their permanent residence. They look for people and situations that will allow the ghosts enough energy to do what they need to. Energy is generated in countless ways and different ghosts use different methods. The shortest possible answer to the question "what do ghosts like" is energy.
There are a number of ways in which you can contact ghosts . It really depends on what is the purpose for contacting ghosts or spirit as i like to call them. If you have lost a loved one and wish to contact them , you could do so by going to your nearest spiritualist church or contact a well established medium. If however you feel there is a presence around you then ask who they are and what they want . There is also ouija boards but i really dont recommend it as you can put yourself at risk ..Its better to contact the spirit world in a controlled environment like a church. Tip- Spiritualist churches are very useful to channel spirits as indeed it is safe and help is available. But also,a ghostbox is safer than a Ouija board. You can borrow or purchase a ghostbox from paranormal groups or a medium.Spirits cannot haunt you from using a ghostbox, as no portals are opened. I have used a Ouija board since I was 13, which is almost 5 years of experience. Spirits also prefer to use the ghostbox to communicate. The ghostbox uses up less of the spirits energy, which allows you to communicate with them for longer periods of time. If not, have short 10-15 minute breaks, to allow the spirit to regain its energy. A ghostbox is like a radio, which scans all the channels randomly, making a rhythmic noise. Spirits convert the scanning of the radio channel to words, making sentences. When you see a ghost, this is what I recommend to everybody. When you see a ghost don't run, panic, or especially scream. Don't let them know that you're scared of them because the more you show them that your scared, the more they bother you! So just ask them what do they want from you. Don't use the ouija board because that's like opening the door to them and inviting them in.
