It all relies on matter. Matter is everything. Ghosts could be images projected through our eyes of things we have seen in the past. To support this in almost every ghost sighting about 85% have recognized the so called "ghost". "Could this be a spiritual thing?" some say. I believe it is not. Ghosts might be shrouds of fog, little kids under curtains, or even a projection. For the 15% who did not recognize the "ghosts" then lucky them. They might have come in contact with sentience beyond our knowing. Who knows maybe aliens, people of the past, or even angles or demons communicate with us through the "ghosts" On most accounts ghosts scare people away and only short clips prove their existence. Are they really trying to scare us or do they just want to talk? We will never know unless they speak to us again on a believable phenomenon. To directly answer your question: Other significant life is trying to talk which causes paranormal activity or people just make it up to become popular, or the human eye plays a sight changing trick that, rarely, happens.

Having an out of body expirence is different that having a ghost present. When you have an out of body expirence you will usually expierence this while you are sleeping. You may or may not remember physically looking onto your physical body while you float above it for example. You may also awake with a jolt as if you are falling(I'm sure everyone has expierenced this).

When a ghost is present you may feel a number of things. A change in the room temperature (warmer or colder) you may smell a distinct aroma that is out of nowhere or you may feel emotions that are out of ordinary.
