How to fix Chevy truck c5500 service brake warning tone?

The CHEVY / GMC Medium duty trucks have power assisted hydraulic brakes. The assist comes from the power-steering pump (not vacuum as with cars or light trucks). Pretty sure the brake system trade name for the C4500 series truck is HYDROBOOST and the trade name for the C5500 is HYDROMAX.

This brake system incorporates monitors for various things that can go wrong. When it does the dashboard BRAKE light (to the left of the speedometer) will come on as well as the SERVICE BRAKE light which is to the right of the steering wheel below the radio - it has a picture of a wrench. At the same time the warning CHIME will sound continuously. It will not silence until you fix the problem.

On my 2003 C5500 truck I discovered after much aggravation that the warning chime and light was sounding because of a failure in the electric backup to the HYDROMAX. The HYDROMAX system has an electric pump to power the HYDROMAX in the event the engine stalls while driving. Without it you would loose power braking if the engine stalled while driving. This electric backup system is checked every time the engine is started. If it does not come on, the warning light and chime will come on shortly. The pump is mounted at the firewall under the hood behind the steering wheel attached to the master cylinder. The pump is powered by a 40 amp plug in relay located right next to the electric motor.

On my truck this relay went bad and changing the relay solved the entire problem.

As a side note: if the brake fluid is low in the reservoir, the dash BRAKE light will come on but not the SERVICE BRAKE light.

How do you break into 2003 gmc pickup truck?

I know how but that's because I own one and someone stole it. After getting it back I replaced the door lock and ignition ring which made me understand how easy it was. Why the hell would I want another potential thief to read the answer here and then do it again to me or some other poor sob? That's probably why nobody will answer your question.

Sierra Owners: Even if you have an alarm. Do yourselves a favor and get a kill switch installed, cut off the spark or fuel pump not the ignition power, and put the switch in a good hidden location. Not under the steering column or dash, somewhere harder to find.

City where General Motors was founded?

How do you lower Chevy van rear end?

You could de-cambered(flattened)The leaf springs, they can be done by anyone with a big press or professionally or buy flat lowering springs.

If your mechanically inclined:

The cheaper way and its pretty strait forward. first the obvious the back end in the air, wheels off, and strait away you will see that the axle is under the leafs, also you will see were the shocks are located, all you need to do is get the axle on top of the leafs, if you did that the shock mount would be on the wrong side and you wouldn't be able to fit it back on, now to do that! take a look at how the axle is held on to the leafs and look how the shocker is mounted to the plate, if you cut the mounts of the plate and re-weld them on the other side(this is cheap welding job) the mount will fit and you just lowered your van EASY, It takes 6hours+ but 3 of them were cleaning. The axle is now on top of the leafs i can now fit lowering blocks which cost peanuts. Also, upgrade shocks for handling.

Does dodge have a truck like the GMC top kick?

There are versions of the Dodge Ram - the 4500 and 5500 - that fall into the Class 4 and Class 5 categories, and the Top Kick was available in weight ratings which fell into those categories, as well. The Dodge Ram 4500/5500 was also badge engineered as the Sterling Bullet. As for the Class 6, Class 7, and Class 8 variants, Dodge has no equivalent - they left that market in the 70s, and were under the umbrella of Daimler A.G., which was (and remains) the parent company of Freightliner, Western Star, and Sterling (in the case of Sterling, from 1997 - when they bought out the heavy truck division of Ford - to 2009, when the Sterling production line was shut down), as well as Mercedes-Benz. Daimler A.G. sold off Mopar (which includes Dodge, Chrysler, et. al) in 2007, but Dodge has shown no interest in reentering the heavy duty truck market.
