On some of the high resolutions imagery (probably aerial) you can make out the shapes of large sharks and whales. Much of such imagery is taken near the shore and beaches.

Just type in an address from either and it will fly-to that location showing best available aerial or satellite images. In Bing you can enable Bird's Eye mode for a better angle of aerial photography.

Actually its not the altitude of the satellite but the resolution of the camera that is responsible for a high resolution imagery.
In fact the better resolution imagery in Google Earth comes from aerial and street-level photography.
