Karen lost weight by being in a Coma for approximately 3 and a half weeks. (Not from a by pass surgery... she talks about it in interviews. So anyone who says by pass surgery is a liar. No reason for her to lie about it.) She almost died. The doctors gave her a 2% chance to live, but God's grace and mercy saw her through and she made it. That's a blessing. But that is how Karen lost weight!!

In 2001, Karen went in for a routine hernia surgery, and unexpected complications arose. She developed a blood clot in her lungs, and one in her legs, and then more problems arose which were the catalyst to her slipping into a coma for three and a half weeks. The doctors gave her a 2 percent chance, and as you know she recovered and is singing today, although she thought she would never be able to while she was bedridden, hence the title of her sophmore album "Second Chance".
