Can grapefruit cause gout?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

yes in fact it can.

It would seem that grapefruit is moderately low in purines and therefore would not in itself play a large role in a gout attack.

However, things are not as they always seem with gout. Personal experience says that drinking Grapefruit Juice 16 oz's a day or more can actually bring on a gout attack. This result is repeatable with some gout sufferers, while others don't seem to be affected. When in doubt go lightly on the Grapefruit Juice.

Can you treat gout with reflexology?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Depends on where and how severe the pain is. Better not in most cases I would say. I can tell you when I have an attack even a bed sheet is painful. Sometimes as the pain and swelling comes down I might massage the area personally but I wouldn't let someone touch. If you are looking for something that might give relief warm water is best for me.
