It is possible, but not very common. If a mate has died then the pig is likely to get depressed for a little while. You can tell this if they eat less, refuse to come out of their house and if they squeak less. But after a while they will turn back to normal. After my guinea pigs friend died, he took about a week and a half and then he was back to normal. If you think that the guinea pig is still very lonely, then you can always buy another pig to live in the same cage. Be careful if you are going to do this, as your old guinea pig may not accept the new one and will fight. To ensure that they get on well, introduce them slowly. Perhaps allow them to spend a few minutes together at first and then gradually increase this each day.

A guinea pig's feelings are almost the same as humans- except theirs is not that complex...

They can feel sad, anger, hurt, scared, worried, jealous(believe it or not). There might be a few others but these are the ones i know.

No. Only feed your guinea pig vegetables and some fruits plus timothy hay and pellets. NEVER feed them pellets meant for rabbits or other animals. Always check a trusted website to see if it is safe to feed a guinea pig certain veggies or fruits.

It depends on how often you clean out their cages if you clean them out often then there should be no problem. Also make sure that you get a cage with a closed bottom and sloted bars not like a closed in box because the smell has no where to go and it just stays in the box and it smells extra bad.

Yes they do there ears should be checked and cleaned thourally and what alot of people think is that guinea pigs are rodents but they are not they are in the domestic group of aniaml and they require a yearly vet check up just like dogs or cats usaully costing about 100 to 175$ or a full check up . Yes they can, and it is a very painful condition to them. They shed flakes of skin and scratch like crazy, and it usually takes a while before you can notice that it is serious.

The itching is caused by mites that are microscopic and under their skin, and causes them to wheek in pain. Worst is that they can scratch so much that they start bleeding and infect their wounds as a result causing really serious conditions, so a check on how their are doing and how it is progressing is needed.

The itiching is also causing them a lot of stress.

A visit to the vet is needed asap and treatment with specific behind the neck medication applied on them (sometimes with repeats needed every 2 weeks for a month).

I can't remember the name of the medicine but it is a worldwide scabies pet medicine so your vet will know.

Guineas usually shed a lot of hair as a result of the scratching and end up with big bald patches in which, after it gets better, hair will slowly grow back.

Our Piggy had that when he was a Baby soon after we got him from the pet shop, so we don't know how or where he caught it...

It got better after roughly 6 weeks.

The main thing is first to go to the vet and have them put the medicine of the piggy, because I tried lots of other stuff on him not knowing it was scabies and in the meantime it got worse...so as soon as symptoms like sneezing a lot, scratching, flakes of skin shed, and hairloss around the scratching area..go to the vet ASAP.

They can as long as the male or female has been neutered. This will help prevent any baby piggies that you may not have room to keep yourself. You should not breed a female pig after 6-7 months as the pelvic bones may have fused together making a natural birth impossible.

Hold the new guinea pig in your hands, getting the scent on you. Pet your old pig lovingly after letting him smell your new pig's scent on your hand. guinea pigs eat timothy hay to wear their teeth down that continue to grow throught their lives. when a guinea pigs teeth are overgrown it becomes hard to eat and the guinea pig will eventually starve to death.
