How long does it take for a baby guppy to grow to an adult guppy?
Answer 1:
About a month. Well, that's when female FANCY GUPPIES can get pregnant!
Answer 2:
While it is true that guppies reach sexual maturation at about one month, they do not reach adulthood until around 12-14 weeks (~3.5 months).
How many guppies to a 10 gallon aquarium?
Guppies need a 40 gallon tank. Maybe 3 at the most if you only put in plants and maybe one rock.
answer 2 by LipRingz:they don't need a 40 gallon tank i had 5 guppy's in a 2.5 tank in a 10 gallon you can have prob 8-9 guppy's
Can guppies survive on plants?
Guppies will eat a bit of algae now and then but don't expect them to eat plants because they are not plant eaters. They mainly eat tiny crustacea like Daphnia and insect larvae like Mosquito wrigglers. In some places they are put in waterways to control the Mosquitos and are called Mosquito fish.
Why is your female guppy staying by the heater on her own?
She could well be staying away because she is due to release her young or maybe she has had enough male attention for a while.
How long can guppies live without food?
Guppies are pretty hardy fish, they can easily survive without a filter. What most animal lovers will argue is that even though they can survive, it is abuse to the fish and you need your fish to "thrive".
Fist off, why do fish need a filter?
All a filter really does is clean the water and another thing that I will get to, therefore if you clean the bowl on a weekly basis than you have the cleanliness part covered. Unlike gold fish which have a huge amount a wast, the guppy is average.
For the second reason which to have a filter: all it does, compared to a bowl, is disturb the water surface which allows more oxygen into the water. Thus, the more surface area in a unfiltered tank the less needed is a filter. For example, if there was a tube that was 5ft. high and just 1in x 1in long, than the fish would probably die after using up all the oxygen that was already in the water, if there was a tube that was just an 1in high but was 5ft. long than there would be greater surface area and a filter would not be needed for most any fish (even though no fish should live in such a place). So, for the oxygen thing, you could even have just an air pump and do water changes often and be set (even though a filter is more preferable).
Now, should a guppy live in a bowl or a tank without a filter? I know from my own personal experience that they most certainly can survive. But that still isn't thriving... ...there is a good medium for the two...
Though my experiments on the subject at hand, I have found that guppies (this is the most extreme) can live in just a cup of water, and did water changes every (up to) three weeks and still live! To me, though, this is cruel. Now, some people make super houses for there dogs (thriving); yet the same dog can still live in an apartment (surviving). You really need to be the judge. I would say a three gallon tank, one that does not need to have filter would be most reasonable for your money and for a number of guppies to live unstressed.
Almost all freshwater fish, with the exception of bettas, like aerated water that is clean and constantly moving. I kept eight guppies alive in a salsa jar for two years when I was about nine, but I changed the water twice a week, every week, and I didn't overfeed my fish. I also aerated the water twice a day with an eyedropper.
If you must keep fish without a filtration and aeration system for any long period of time, scoop up water with a cup twice a day and drop it back into the container from a height to dissolve oxygen in the water. Change at least half the water two or three times a week. I always changed all the water and rinsed the gravel, and the only plant I kept was floating. Most fish will die from the stress of a total water change, and the hardy guppy is one of few species that can tolerate it.
You will also need a long, flexible plastic tube. Keep the fish container high up, and once every few days, siphon out waste. Place the tip of the tubing into the water, get down as low as you can without moving the tip of the tube out of the water, and suck on the other end. As soon as the water starts to draw, drop the end into a bucket. Use the suction created by the siphoning to remove fish droppings, uneaten food etc. Then top up the water.
Without a filter, without aerating the water at all, I would say you've got about three days before the guppy dies, and it would be so distressed anyway that that's an appauling welfare issue. The only fish that I have in non-aerated tanks are fry, and I do those three to five times a day to keep them going. The only reason I keep them like this is because they'd be eaten in the main tank with the adults and I can't set up fifteen fish tanks in my little house.
Can guppy fish eat cooked chicken?
They probably would, but it isn't good for them. Feed them regular fish food instead.
Male gupies grow up 0.5 to 1.5 inches, and female guppies grow up 1.5 to 2.5 inches.
How do you know when a guppy is giving birth?
Fish lay eggs. They don't bear live offspring.
SECOND OPINION: Yes, but only half of an answer. Females about to lay make a "nest" in small rocks and lay their eggs there, so after the goofy male fish comes and fertilizes them with his cloud of sperm in the water, which then penetrate eggs and then the baby fish develops inside of that egg., living on fluids in the egg itself. With any luck at all, many of the now-sticky eggs will attach themselves snugly down between those rocks to prevent their being eaten by other not-so-nice hungry fish. The female mother fish hovers over her "nest" to protect her eggs and tiny hatchlings until they are big enough to quickly get out of harm's way. VERY few of the tiny baby fish live long enough to reach maturity.
THIRD OPINION:
Not all fish lay eggs. Some are livebearers, which means that the baby fish develop inside of the mother, and then the mother gives birth to the live fish. Fish such as Mollies, Platies, and Guppies give birth to tiny baby fish that swim around the tank right after their birth.
The guppy is named after the Rev. J.L. Guppy of Trinidad, an early collector of the species from the late 1800's. Guppies (Poecilia reticulata) are placed in the family as mollies and mosquitofish. The wild, original guppy is native to Central America, as well as Trinidad and northern South America. Today, many guppies are found in Asia, especially Singapore, where many fancy strains are bred in large fish farms, and shipped to pet stores all over the world. The Fancy Guppy Fancy guppies are the result of specialized breeding techniques and they only slightly resemble the small, wild guppy, often seen in pet stores labeled "feeder fish".
Guppies are freshwater fish. Their tanks should contain no salt.

Nothing can live without oxygen. Guppies get their oxygen from the water by using their gills. An air bubbler does absolutely no good to the water. Connect the air pump to a filter and then the filter will benefit the tank by biologically removing ammonia from the water. The rules of fishkeeping are. :- 1 inch of fish needs at least 1 gallon of water but more is better. :- Every tank needs a permanently running cycled filter. :- Every tank needs at least 50% of its water replaced every week.Follow the rules and you stand a chance of keeping fish successfully. Miss out on any of them, and I can guarantee that your fish will have constant health problems.
How long does it take for a guppy to mate?
They have a gestation period of around 28 days depending on temperature. If conditions do not suit a female she is capable of holding on to the fry and dying rather than giving birth. Guppies need a temperature of around 75F medium hardness and Neutral pH. then follow the rules. The rules are. :- 1 inch of fish needs at least 1 gallon of water but more is better. :- Every tank needs a permanently running cycled filter. :- Every tank needs at least 50% of its water replaced every week.Follow the rules and you stand a chance of keeping fish successfully. Yes! Like little bunnies. It is best to have one male for about three females. You should read up on live bearers and either get a breeding net or a divider box.
While breeder boxes are good if the momma catches you of gaurd and births early, a separate tank from about 3 to 10 gallons will be perfect for the birthing and raising of the fry. When momma guppy squares off, you know its time, put her in the birthing tank. It should have a heater, sponge filter and TONS of plants.
How many guppies are born at once?
It depends on a number of factors, size of the female, also some strains have more young than others. I've personally seen anywhere from 10 to 35 fry dropped.
How do you know when your girl guppy is about o have a baby?
To tell if a pregnant guppy is about to give birth, there are a few signs to look for.
Signs:
1. Hiding away from other fish near the heater, filter, plants etc..
2. Loss of appetite (watch when you add food to the tank, she may just grab it then spit it back out).
3. Lack of energy. She may appear to just float around the bottom of the tank.
4. She will put her head down and her tail up. She will do this when she is about to start pushing etc..
5. You can also tell by her abdomen. It will be swollen and there should be a really dark (almost black, but for albino guppies bright pink/red) spot near her tail. This is called a gravid spot (which are actually the eyes of the fry inside her).
6. I noticed on my female, that a small white "dot" formed near the poop hole, a few hours before giving birth. This is her birthing canal opening!
If all else fails, you could place her in a breeding net or breeding trap for 24 hours and see what happens. If there are no fry, just release her back into the tank as the trap/net may stress her out.
You could also leave her in the main tank to give birth as long as there are plenty of hiding places for the fry. I use a mixture of dense leafed real and plastic plants. This isn't the best way to save ALL the fry but most should survive till you can scoop them out into a birth net/fry trap for proper safety.
Can two different species of guppies breed?
Yes they can and do. That is why smart people with fancy guppies do not allow the plainer ones in with the fancies. The fancies will not associate themselves with the reggos.
How long does it take for a guppy to have fry?
Provided her conditions are suitable 28 Days. If conditions are not suitable she can hold her young until she dies rather than give birth. Guppies need a temperature of 73F to 75F and you will need to follow the rules . :- 1 inch of fish needs at least 1 gallon of water but more is better. :- Every tank needs a permanently running cycled filter. :- Every tank needs at least 50% of its water replaced every week.Follow the rules and you stand a chance of keeping fish successfully. Why do guppies have different colors in other stream's?
It depends on how much protein and vitamins are in the food they can access in that part of the river.
If a guppy has plenty of protein and vitamins it becomes very colourful and healthy. If not they can be quite dull in colour.
It also depends on what colour their mother and father were. If its father was blue and its mother was red, it will most probably grow to be either blue or red or maybe both.
How do know if a guppy fish is a male or female?
First of all, the question is confusing since a male goldfish could never be female. I'm going to assume you mean how to tell the sex of a goldfish. Following are some methods that can be used to recognize the sexes but even these are useless unless the fish are at least a year old, i.e., have attained sexual maturity. 1. Midline ridge: male goldfish have a ridge running through the back of pelvic fins to their vent opening on the underside. The ridge is either completely missing or smaller in females. 2. Firmness of abdomen: The area between pelvic and anal fins is pliable for females but very firm for males. 3. Shape of the vent: Though difficult to figure out, the female vent is rounder and convex, whereas the male vent is thinner and concave. 4. Shape of the pectoral fins: Male pectoral fins are pointed with stiffer leading ray and female pectorals are rounded, shorter with finer front fin ray. 5. Features: females are brighter colored and are more active. This could be a difficult way of pointing out a female but you could try! If all else fails, put a known female in the tank. A male will check her out. A female will ignore her.
How many guppies can be in a 2.5 gallon tank?
the rule of keeping fish in a tank is 1 gallon per inch of full grown fish, so 3 guppies will be good but just to keep them safe hav an air pump or just keep 2 of them
Do mosquitofish get along with guppies?
I doubt that they can breed, a lot more depends on if two fish can breed than just their size, as far as I know guppies can only breed with other guppies.
no it will not but it would attack if it or it's babies are threatened
Can a male guppy have a black spot?
Many male guppies have 'black spots' but if by "black spot" you mean "gravid spot" then no, a male guppy can not be 'gravid' because gravid is the equivalent of "pregnant" and male guppies can not get pregnant.
What is the coloration variation of a bullfrog used for?
They generally range from brown to olive green, with or without spots of a darker color of the two.
Can baby guppy stay alive without the mother?
Yes, they can live in groups peacefully as long as there are not females around. Males live happily by themselves, you will probably see some nipping, just to establish who is the leader. But fighting is more common in groups of female. But, yes, they can.
