What does it cost to feed a hamster for a year?
The cost to feed a hamster for a year can vary depending on the type and quality of food you buy. On average, it can cost between $50 to $100 per year to feed a hamster, factoring in expenses for food pellets, fresh veggies, and occasional treats. Buying in bulk or seeking out discounts can help lower costs.
It is important to take your hamster to a veterinarian as soon as possible for an accurate diagnosis and treatment. Do not try to treat the injury yourself at home. It is better to seek professional help to ensure your hamster receives the proper care it needs.
Hamster noises can indicate various emotions and needs. For example, squeaking can indicate excitement or fear, while teeth chattering may signal aggression. Pay attention to your hamster's body language and the context of the situation to better understand their noises.
When is the first day you can hold a baby hamster?
TAKEN FROM: http://www.myhammie.com/baby-hamsters.php
One can't just take his eyes off hamster pups, as these tiny cute little creatures will sure have your attention. Baby hamster are born without any fur and are closely attached to their mother. Though you may have the desire to hold them, bare in mind that there is nothing you can do within two weeks period after delivery.
REMEMBER NOT TO TOUCH THE BABIES!! Your action might harm the babies and change its scent thus confuses the mother. She will think that they are not hers, abandon them and worst she might even eat the babies (it did happened to my hamsters). Not to cause any stress to the mother, avoid cleaning up the cage within this period. It is advisable to place the babies at the bottom of the cage as none of them had opened their eyes yet.
After this two weeks 'vital' period, you can hold them but only for a brief period as not to disturb or stress the mom or babies. You can also clean up the cage and place fresh beddings in most of it. Remove just the soiled parts in the nest area and put a good portion of the old bedding in it. Put the babies back in the nest after it is cleaned up followed by the mother.
Once the babies eyes are opened (which should occur on the 11-12 days, but some take less/more), they should figure out how the bottle works. In order for them to reach it easily, put it lower and in an area where they frequently go. If they haven't figured out how to use the bottle and you are worried about them not drinking enough, you can give them pieces of cucumbers to prevent dehydration. Do not put water in a bowl to prevent them from falling in and drown or catch a cold.
At three weeks, you can separate the babies if you observe any fighting among them but if they seem immature, less developed and not quite independent enough to leave mom just yet, let them stay together until they are four weeks old. When they reach five weeks old, independent and have a healthy development, they can be placed in new homes and play in new surroundings and environment.
Whenever they are used to you and trust you enough to let you handle them. Let them smell your hand before touching them so they recognise who you are then after a couple of days or a week begin gently picking them up but don't hold them for too long. When they have enough confidence and trust you, then you can hold them like an ordinary grown hamster.
Hamsters have several natural predators in the wild, including owls, hawks, cats, and snakes. These predators hunt hamsters either for food or as part of their natural hunting instincts. In captivity, hamsters are generally safe from predators as long as they are kept in secure enclosures.
What can you feed your dwarf hamster?
I buy my hamster some hamster food at Wal-Mart and it isn't expensive. If you don't want to do that, I also feed my hamster Special K. He LOVES it! You should get the kind with the yogurt clusters. Hamsters love that! Hope this helped! :) ~Ashley
In baby pals do the babies grow?
No but they can go under 12 months but sorry they dont grow but if your thinking about buying it i would buy it couse i bout this for myself im 7 but buy it if you can good game.
Yes, well, it is good to hold them and tame them. It'll get them used to people. At first, they may be scared and may bite. If so, it doesn't matter much, it is just as you smell different. Keep trying and wear gloves. So, yes, they do like to be held.
Can you put the male hamster with the female hamster with the babies?
If you are talking about dwarf hamsters, make sure that the babies are aleast 5 weeks old and are running around and are big enough so that the male will not eat them. If you put the male back with the female then it is very common that they will mate again and/or fight often as they have been separated.. Make sure that the female doesnot have more than 5 litters as this is WAY TOO much STRESS for her.
Why do hamsters get wet tail and how do you cure it?
-Wet tail is when a hamster gets diarrhea, which means all the water in it's tiny body is coming out in it's feces. This is highly dangerous, because now the hamster does not have any water in it's body and is becoming weaker and weaker, and gets dehydrated. Eventually, the hamster gets too weak to come get some of his water or food... leaving nothing to keep him/her alive.
-Diarrhea is just something hamsters get. Humans get it, but when hamster's do.. it's life threatening.
-You can cure it by everyday examining his feces. If it is too moist, runny, or soft you should be concerned. You don't have to take it to the vet, just take the hamsters water bottle (should have came with the cage, if you don't have one, I suggest you run down to your local pet store and by an individual one.) up to wherever the hamster is laying, and let it suck some water out until it seems satisfied. You should probably do this every half hour to keep it hydrated. (Just think if you were a tiny little creature, with no strength left to walk... you would want to be pampered so you don't... well, die!) Also, bring some food up to the hamster... and pretty soon the little guy/girl will have enough strength to take care of itself! For a week or two, really examine and observe your hamster (especially it's feces!). If everything is normal and your little buddy is running around and being itself again after a week or so, then congratulations, you just saved your pets life!
-If you do this, and things don't seem to be getting any better, or seem to be getting worse, definitely take it to a vet right away.
I hope this helps you, and good luck!
What would entertain a hamster most?
Hamsters enjoy activities such as running on a wheel, exploring tunnels and mazes, chewing on toys and treats, and nesting in bedding materials. Providing them with a variety of toys and activities will help keep them entertained and stimulated.
What do you do when the hamsters are being born?
Leave them alone. The mother will take care of her babies. You should not touch the cage, mother or babies for at least 2 weeks. Give the babies and mother nutritious foods. and wait till they are 14 days old to pick them up.
Take any other hamsters out of the cage and give her access to bedding so she can make a proper nest.
What are the simptoms of hamster concussions?
One would assume that they would be similar to those of humans and other larger animals. Blacking out, dizziness, impaired movement, confusion, vomiting, difficulty waking up, convulsions, coma and abnormal behavior would all be things to look for.
How do you know if your hamster has a concussion?
Honey, I was wondering the exact same thing before my hammy died...I hope that didn't scare you ... >>
Well, for a hamster to have a concussion, it must've taken a fall. Therefore no fall, no concussion.
Since hamster's can't puke or anything, it's hard to tell. If your hamster is kind of out of it, not walking straight, disoriented, it just might have a concussion.
However, you should take your hamster to the vet. They probably won't charge you anything if they don't do anything besides diagnose, so don't worry about the cost. Either way simple hamster procedures (sorry, I couldn't think of another word. I mean like putting on a little cast kinda of idea) only cost $50 or less.
I don't think that they'll be needing to do any of that, they'll just give you any advice if your hamster does have a concussion.
Best of luck with that,
Can you give your hamster a used Ice lolly stick?

Are a cat a hamster and a dog mammals?

Are mice smaller then hamster?
Five animals that are smaller than a mouse include a pygmy glider, pipistrelle bat, brown bat, pygmy shrew, and masked shrew. At birth, a panda is smaller than a mouse, weighing an average of 4-ounces.
It doesn't matter if the hamster is male or female... it totally depends on the handler. The animal is perfectly fine, until it knows you are there, or interact with it - and that is when their behaviour will change, in a positive or negative way. As said above, it all depends on how you handle the creature. Treat it with respect, it'll be friendly with good training, wake it up by clancking on its bars during the day and shove your finger near its face (They have a very good sense of hearing, and not very good eye sight, so they will mistake your finger as food) it'll bite the thing, and I don't blame them. It's not a case of them being nasty...

Do hamsters go stiff when dead?
Yes, when a hamster dies, its body may become stiff due to rigor mortis setting in. This is a natural process that can occur in any animal after death.
Do hamster go stiff when sleeping?
Yes, it is common for hamsters to appear stiff when they are sleeping. This is known as the "sleeping hunch" position, where they may appear still and their bodies may be slightly arched. It is a natural behavior and is not a cause for concern.
You don't. It is very aware of it's hygene and will groom itself. If you wash it, it might die because the natural oils on its body will be washed away. And that is the good thing about hamsters. ;) P.S. If you have a long haired hamster, you will need to have a hamster brush to groom it. That's why if you are a first-timer, you shouldn't purchase a long-haired one for the sake of less work (XD).

What do you do if your hamster has a crusty ball on her ear and it is now growing on her head?
You should probably tell your parents or whatever and see if you can take your hamster to the vet and get it taken care of. Sounds like the growth of a cyst. While usually not very dangerous to the animal, it can present problems and shuold be seen by a professional. There is no home remedy for this one.
