By the time that Harry Truman took office as president in 1945, the war was almost over. He did, however, want it to end as soon as possible. He authorized the use of atomic bombs, likely shortening the war by at least several months.

In 1946 Richard Nixon was elected to the House of Representatives (representing southern California's 12th district) by defeating 5 term incumbent, Democrat, Jerry Voorhis.

The Truman doctrine was a Policy it was made in March of 1947. Truman was an advocated in his address to Congress It was to provide military and economic aid to Greece and Turkey. By extension, to any country threatened by Communism

Truman threatened to draft the strickers into the army.

At the end of World War Two, Poland was subjugated by the Soviet Union (Stalin). Poland had been an ally (on the winning side), never the less, it was treated by Stalin as an enemy. Stalin murdered much of the Polish military & civilian leadership and replaced them with communist puppets. Stalin was one of the most ruthless, dangerous, and murderous dictators in world history. Probably the least trustworthy person alive during Truman's Presidency.

President Harry Truman was a Democrat. He was President Franklin D. Roosevelt's vice president when Roosevelt died in 1945. Truman won his election bid to become the 33rd US president and served from 1945 to 1953.

He attended Eureka College in Eureka, Illinois.

Harry Truman was a President of the US. He was originally a Senator for Missouri who became Franklin Roosevelt's Vice President in 1945. Roosevelt died not long after this and not long before World War II ended in Europe. It was Harry Truman's decision to drop the two atomic bombs on Japan and end the war in the Pacific.

Truman had a mixed reputation during his presidency and a lot of his proposals were rejected by Congress. Furthermore, America suffered from economic problems in the aftermath of the war, such as shortages and strikes. In 1948 he appeared to be doomed to lose the election to Thomas Dewey, but he won. The result was so unexpected that the Chicago Tribune famously ran the wrong headline. By 1952, he had lost his popularity due to corruption amongst senior members of his cabinet and White House staff. Truman was a supporter of Civil Rights and ordered desegregation of the millitary, but achieved very little due to fierce opposition from Democrats in the Southern states.

Truman's presidency also saw great changes abroad. He oversaw the founding of the United Nations and NATO, the Marshall Plan to assist Western Europe, the Berlin Airlift and the Korean War. He died in 1972.

For his time he was considered well dressed, perhaps it was his former career as a habradasher.

Truman's biggest domestic problem would be the fact that he, being the predecessor of F.D.R who helped bring the country up and out of the Depression, was in F.D.R's shadow. He felt he needed to sustain the country as well as F.D.R did.

President Harry S. Truman introduced to Congress a 21-point program, proposing the expansion of Social Security, a full-employment program, a permanent Fair Employment Practices Act, and public housing and slum clearance. He also kept the Korean war a limited one, rather than risk a major conflict with China and Russia.

He served almost two terms: (1945-1949) and (1949-1953)

He finished out Roosevelt fourth term after Roosevelt had served almost three months of it and then Truman was elected to a term of his own .

To provide economic aid for third-world nations after the second world war. But it was also used as a way for the united states to ensure that communism did not spread to poorer nations. In exchange for advice and aid, the third wolrd country would guarantee democracy over communism.

It was during the Truman administration that we say the rise of the McCarthyist paranoia in America, and the beginning of the Cold War, which was to prove so costly to America.

Woodrow Wilson played a huge role in determining if and when America would get involved in World War I. He also fought for the League of Nations to help avert another World War which won him the 1919 Nobel Peace Prize.
