If you are a carrier, there is a shampoo you can get from your doctor that kills bugs, eggs and nits, however, it is very expensive. you have to make sure you wash everything that the person with lice has come in contact with, including bed sheets, curtains and anything washable. put any stuffed animals in a black plastic garbage bag and leave outside in the sun for a few days. use lice bedding spray for all couches and mattresses an inside your car. b sure to use a not removing comb when doing hair. eggs hatch within 10 days so rewash hair in 10 days in case some was missed. As long as you get everything clean good you should get rid of them. Just make sure u get lice shampoo. The brand Rid is good too. Rid has combination packs with everything you need.

Build up her immune system. If she eats lots of junk food (pretzels, candy, desserts, cheerios), packaged food, fruit and juice then start by removing these. They strip the body of nutrients like calcium, magnesium, zinc and all vitamins including fat soluble ones that are mainly found in animal foods. Lice, fleas and bedbugs love a weak host.

Flat ironing CAN kill nits and nymphs. Yes it can dry the hair out a bit but it also depends on the texture and integrity of the fair to start with. I'm a hair dresser and have been for 12 yrs. My.daughter has gotten lice 2 times. I'm not willing to put a pesticide chemical ridden lice shampoo on her head, so I first suffocate the live lice with mayo, shower cap her hair and let it sit for 2 hours. Shampoo 4x or so with a tea tree shampoo. i like bumble and bumbles tonic shampoo. I detangle with bumble and bumbles tonic leave in spray (which I just learned from a bumble rep with deter any re-infestations with daily use due to the tea tree oil). O lightly blowdry then with the hair still mostly wet I flat iron on the highest settibg. PLEASE BE CAREFUL as the steam can burn the scalp. My trick is to blow on the hair as im ironing close to the scalp. Nay sayers will say Omg you're damaging her hair...... but I'd rather live with slightly dry lice free fair that can easily be treated with a conditioning treatment then dry possibly not lice free hair which was treated with harsh chemicals and pesticides. This is a personal preference that worked for me. I back the flat iron 100%

According to the department of public health, mayonaise is not a useful tool for killing head lice. It doesn't shampoo out fully and will spoil in your hair. You should use olive oil. Olive oil will suffocate the lice, not spoil in your hair, and wash out thoroughly.

You should try and get the headlice out using treatment first. But as im a hairdresser a lot of parents come in with their children and say to cut their hair very short or even shave their head so they won't get headlice again as easily as if they had long hair.

Continue to comb out your hair until you get nothing for 3 days in a row and then you are good. To be safe though I would recheck it (comb through it once more) about 5 days after that.

No, the combs remove the adult head lice but not the "nits" which are their eggs, which they stick to the base of the hairs.

So if you have nits, coming out the adult lice will not remove the infestation as more lice will hatch out from the nits.

As well as combing the hair you need to kill the nits with some proprietary medicine.

There are some lice treatments at pharmacies or Wal-Mart Zellers and places like that. What you do with them is spread the stuff all over your hair, leave it on for 15 20 minutes wash it out and comb the lice out with the lice comb provided or if tha breaks too easy, use your normal comb (not brush) and after wash all the lice out in your sink. However, if you try to get it off your hair, and it doesn't come off, it's a possibilitly that it might be lice eggs. But if think you have lice, you'll be able to see it if you examine closely. If you don't see any, then you probably don't have lice!
