Heart

The heart is a major organ of the body that is found in the circulatory system. It pumps blood throughout the blood vessels. Questions related to the heart should be put here.

Why does the heart muscle need more oxygen during exercise?

The heart uses more oxygen during exercise because it is beating harder and faster. This increased rate/contractility require more energy. The greatest amount of energy is generated under aerobic respiration. Aerobic respiration uses oxygen as a final electron receptor in the electron transport chain which it uses to generate ATP (which the cells use for energy).

Bottom line - more oxygen is used because more energy is needed.

Why would the ventricles need to be strong?

The ventricles have to be firmer and more muscular because they have to pump blood much further than the atria.

What left or right atrium or ventricle carries blood to all parts of the body except to the lungs?

The left ventricle. Blood flows from your body back to the right atrium through the right ventricle then to the lungs to get oxygen. It then goes to the left atrium to the left ventricle, which is the largest, most muscular part of the heart because it pumps the oxygenated blood back to the body.

What happens if the heart is beating out of rhythm?

Lots of things can be done if your heart does not beat rhythmically. Which things those are depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you want to surprise someone, you can, for instance, throw a hotdog at their face if your heart does not beat rhythmically. Sh*t, you can do just about anything if your heart does not beat rhythmically (except for maybe try to keep accurate time with your heart beat as a reference).

But I'm going to assume (and this is just an assumption b/c you clearly didn't state this in your question) that your goal is to get your heart back into rhythm. Here's what you could do:

Get an EKG (see a doctor unless you have one of your own which is unlikely)

After interpreting the results of the EKG (again, if you don't know how you might need a doctor) attempt to determine which medications you might need, if any.

I'm kind of feeling weird that I have to explain this to somebody. Where do you live? Do you not have the money to go to a doctor? The problem with arrhythmias is that it could be due to so many different things and the response, in order to gain rhythm, depends very much so on the details.

What happens when your heart stops beating?

If a heart stops, the hospital may administer a drug such as epinephrine. It will also try to start the heart again with a defibrillator or chest compressions.

Could it be your heart when you take a deep breath and it hurts on your left side of your chest?

This could be symptoms of a number of things but most of the time it may just be nothing and it will pass in a couple minutes or a couple hours. try lying down and relaxing for a while because most of the time it may be stress related. Also try to keep you're breathing regular and not panic or it will make it hurt worse.

If any other symptoms occur like shortness of breathe or coughing up blood go to the emergency room A.S.A.P (but have somebody else driving if possible)

but for right now just call your doctor and ask if this could be an underlining cause to another problem.

What is the order in which blood moves though the heart?

it moves through the veins.

Not really - the sequence is

right atrium

right ventricle

to and from lungs

left atrium

left ventricle

to the body

What is the valve between the left ventricle and the aorta of the heart called?

Aortic insufficiency (AI), also known as aortic regurgitation (AR) is what is called when blood flows in the reverse direction during ventricular diastole, from the aorta into the left ventricle.

Why does your heart beat when you see your crush?

Your heart beats fast when you see your secret crush because he's really cute and you wanna be with him. <3 AHH! LOVE!

Is the heart basic structural unit of the body?

No. The basic structural unit of the body and all living things is the cell.

What is the longest vein in the heart?

The longest vein in the human body would be the saphenous vein.

What is the term for the improper closure of the value between the left atrium and ventricle during systole?

That sounds familiar. However, I'm not a medical doctor but I do suggest that you go to the library and ask for the notebooks on the latest medical articles.

It is a notebook, in alphabetical order that lists all the medical problems in the world, in an updated manner. When there is a new malady or a new treatment for an old problem, the medical association prints the results and sends copies to all the libraries in the country. At least that's what I was told. Look up your question, starting with atrium then go on to ventricle. You might look for HOCM, Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, which used to be called IHSS.

Ask the librian to help you.

How does the pulmonary vein bring oxygenated blood to the heart?

Your body picks up oxygen in your lungs. Your right ventricle pumps blood through your pulmonary artery to your lungs. Your blood picks up oxygen in your lungs. From there, it needs to get to the rest of your body. How can it do that? Something has to send it there. Let's send it through a vein to the heart. Maybe we can get the heart to send the oxygenated blood to the rest of the body. The pulmonary vein brings oxygenated blood from the lungs back to the heart. Then the heart takes that blood and pumps it through arteries to the rest of the body. After the oxygen leaves the blood it returns by way of veins. Under what conditions would a vein contain oxygenated blood?

How does decreasing cholesterol intake prevent heart disease?

Cholesterol is what builds up in your heart valve's. It blocks blood flow and causes strokes and heart attacks because blood doesn't give to other important organs like your brain and kidney's.

Why is it a disadvantage to have a 2-chambered heart?

There will only be allowed one circuit in existence. This means blood will flow through capillaries twice.

How much blood is pumped in one day?

roughly 1.3 gallons are pumped in a minute so that means about 78 gallons per hour.

How do you move on with a broken heart?

Only thing you could do is fix it (work it out), or just move on.

If you think that nothing you do ever works, and your really hurting so bad, I would suggest for you to just move on. And eventually you will be okay. A broken heart does take time to mend, so just be patient. Keep yourself busy and love yourself first. Tell yourself that you deserve better. Everything will be okay.

What is the function of the upper chambers?

To pump out blood and pull blood back to the heart.
the upper delivers the oxygen
