From the earliest civilizations mankind has questioned the concept of a God or higher power as creator. Many religions believe in the concept of a heaven and a hell as a place that souls go to reside after death. Do you get a new name when you go to heaven?
The book of Revelation chapter 2, verse 17 says that as a reward, yes, we will be given a new name, but this does not mean you will not also keep your old one - especially if you like your old one. I know I like my name.

No one can predict about any one whether he will go to hell or heaven. Only Almghty God (Allah) knows. No one knows who will be who in the end.

Addendum:The best answer anyone can give is "we don't know." No one has been to Heaven and returned to tell about it. There is an assumption that Heaven is a physical place, and nowhere in scripture is that stated. When Heaven is spoken of in scripture, it is invariably connected to God or his creation (God of Heaven, Kingdom of Heaven, Creator of heaven and earth, etc.). In each of these instance, "heaven" is a number of different things. The first mention in Genesis of heaven is a Hebrew word that appears nowhere else in scripture, and it means three dimensional expanse, essentially "space." Later references to heaven in Genesis reference heaven as the firmament, literally the expanse, and figuratively the sky above the Earth or the Earth's atmosphere.In the New Testament, the first mention of Heaven is in Matthew 3:1 & 2, "In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea / and saying, 'Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.'" In verse 17 "a voice from heaven" spoke. The argument can be made that heaven is a place here, but it can equally be argued that heaven is a condition or a state of being as well.
One can argue in both directions that there will or won't be sexual intercourse in heaven. The won't side is perhaps a bit stronger. Here's why:
- If heaven is a different condition and there is no physical presence, there is no sex. Intercourse, as we meat sacks know it, cannot happen without a body.
- God's first commandment to Man was "Be fruitful and multiply." Being there were only two humans on the planet, this made sense. If heaven is a reward for a life well and obediently lived, there is no need for multiplication, so no need for sex. What is not needed typically drops away.
- If Heaven is a place, it has finite boundaries. There being no death in Heaven, it is going to get really crowded, very quickly--the purpose of sex is procreation (making new little people). Yeah, I know a new argument rises from the "The purpose of sex is pleasure" group. They can move to the back of the class and adjust their houkas for a discussion elsewhere. The purpose of sexual intercourse is procreation; that it feels good only makes the act more likely to happen--the driving force of 99% of animal behavior.
Now, although the no sex argument is a bit stronger does not mean it wins. As stated earlier, we do not know. In the absence of knowledge, there is only speculation. Speculation is not fact.
Who are the people who are in Heaven now according to the Bible?
We are not judged until the events in revelations takes place, so no one is in either in heaven or hell right now I would imagine. In Luke 19 it does talk about Hades and Abraham's side so this would suggest that there is a waiting room of sorts for the saints and sinners to wait in till judgement by Christ. It mentions hell quite a lot and Hades very little so with all the text taken into consideration this is the view I have adopted. Study it for yourself if you are in doubt. What is the difference between hevean and hell?
Hell is the eternal place of punishment for those who do not accept God's gift of life while they were here on earth. In Hell, fire burns those who are there forever, never ceasing, and worms that never die continually eat on the flesh of those who are there (Isaiah 66:24, Mark 9:43-48).
Heaven is the eternal home of those who did accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and who did His will on earth. There Jesus "will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore" (Revelation 21:4). There, His children will worship Him (Revelation 5), and will enjoy the treasures He will give them for there service to Him on the earth (Matthew 6:19-20, John 14:2-3).

The Holy Bible reads "for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23) and "for the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Rom. 6:23). The Bible also reads, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Acts 2:21). And you're a "whosoever" right? Of course you are; all of us are.

How might a belief in the after affect the way people live?
If one has a belief in an afterlife it can greatly affect how that individual may conduct themselves during this life. It requires one to have a perspective beyond mortality, that life does not end with mortal death. Those with no belief in an afterlife have a perspective limited to the actions and reward/consequences of a mortal existence.
With no eternal reward or penance, the actions one takes on earth become much more about immediate gratification. If there is no tangible aspect to rewards/consequences then they hold very little sway over individual attitudes.
Individuals believing in an afterlife must have a concept of attaining such, and what efforts or requirements are necessary for access to the afterlife. This often precipitates the belief in a higher being, power or God that is the keeper or planner of the afterlife. Such can greatly alter an individuals thought processes and behaviors.
If one is required to Keep Commandments to attain a Joyous afterlife, an individual with that belief would not be likely to break such commandments.

The earth has many beautiful places and natural wonders, all made by God. But what is here on earth pales considerably compared to what the bible tells us about heaven. It is almost beyond description, just as hell can't be described accurately, horrors far worse than we here on earth can comprehend.
We know that Jesus, after his resurrection on the third morning, walked the earth for 40 days. At that time He ascended to heaven. Others that have bypassed the long wait for the second coming of Christ was Moses and Elijah to name a couple. Scripture tells us that they were taken up as soon as their earthly life was over.
"Translated" is the correct word when referring to those who have been "taken up" into heaven without experiencing death. Roman Catholic tradition might include the Blessed Virgin Mary, although legend holds that she did die but that her body and soul were lifted into heaven so that she would not experience any trace of corruption.

But from the many NDEs (near death experience) who say they saw hell while in medical crisis, they all claim that hell holds millions of lost souls, all in torment of various degrees. Those individuals that have a negative NDE, and claim to have seen Satan's domain, virtually all were forever changed. The screams of the damned was constant, the smell so vile as to make them want to vomit, the heat unbearable and the demons whose job it is to torment human souls, is without end.

Does a person go to heaven or hell immediately after death?
Basically, there are 2 schools of thought on this topic which is highly misunderstood. The 1st is from ancient philosophers who taught that man had an immortal soul temporarily housed in our human bodies and it was the soul that was the 'real' man and not the body. At death, this philosophy speculates that the soul leaves the body and goes to a nebulous realm or either paradise or punishment. Mainstream Christianity calls these realms heaven and hell.
The 2nd school of thought is from Oriental philosophy which speculates that the souls of the depraved go into other bodies after death, living as animals, birds, snakes, trees, insects, or other human beings. This is called 'transmigration of souls' or more commonly, reincarnation.
The Jewish Encyclopedia discussing the 'Immortality of the Soul,' volume VI, page 564, 566; states, "The belief that the soul continues its existence after the dissolution of the body (after death) is a matter of philosophical or theologicalspeculation rather than of simple faith, and is accordinglynowhere expressly taught in the Holy Scripture." The above article on the soul from the Jewish Encyclopedia sounds a lot like modern day Christianity, particularly the mainstream and large churches. This Greek thought from the Egyptians who received it from the Babylonians was gradually introduced into Christianity, even with the early Church Fathers disagreeing with this subject. (See Justin, circa 160 AD, in Ante-Nicene Fathers, volume 1, page 176). In about 200 AD though, Origen, an early Church teacher in Alexandria, became a 'Platonist,' believing in the immortality of the soul (volume IV, pages 314, 402).
Finally, in the 4th Century, Roman Emperor Constantine, who forced the Empire to accept one universal (catholic) faith, had men like Augustine 'sanctify' the now doctrine of the immortality of the soul seen in his book 'The City of God.' This doctrine became permanent when Italian scholastic teacher and theologian, Thomas Aquinas in the 13th century AD, stamped the doctrine of the immortality of the soul permanently on the Christian-professing world. All who rejected this idea were branded as heretics.
Scripturally, the soul that sins dies (Romans 6:23). The bible shows us that death is a sleep. We all will be awakened in our Judgement Process - the vast majority after the Millennial rule which is 1000 years after the 'reign of man' ends. Just read the Book for yourself.
