Henri Matisse

Henri Matisse was had a unique painting style all his own. He liked to use bright and dark colours. And he used his wife as a model for many of his paintings. His subjects were largely domestic or figurative. It was called Fauvism.

She was a teacher

Henri Matisse used the palm leaf pattern as a decorative detail during most of his life. It has often been said that it is not really a palm leaf but a leaf from a quite diffrent plant, but it does not matter much.

He became ill when he was 21. To cheer him up his mother brought him paints. He discovered his passion for art here. He dropped law school, in which he was formally enrolled in, to become an artist. This greatly upset his father because his father's dream was for him to become a lawyer.

Van Gogh and Monet

It is believed that the first painter to use linear perspective was Polygonus, in 5th Century BC Greece. We cannot be certain because Greeks painted only on wooden boards, none of which survive. The first modern painting to depict linear perspective was Masaccio's "The Tribute Money" which was done in Florence, Italy in the early 15th Century. It depicts a new testament story.

Henri Matisse was a famous French artist. He is known for his use of color. He was a draughtsman, printmaker and sculptor, but is mainly known as a painter. He was one of the one of the first artists in the Fauvist movement. Fauvism is an art movement which is famous for its use of bright color and energetic brush strokes. His work spanned half a century, and he is acknowledged as a leading figure in modern art.

Lots of very famous artists lived in the 1800s. Degas, Renoir, Cassatt, Gauguin, Cezanne, Manet, Monet.

Degas is famous for his fascination with ballerinas, and Renoir has painted many famous painting including "Young Girls at the Piano". Mary Cassatt's pieces are almost all centered on women. Gauguin's artwork is very unique, because the people in his paintings were black. Cezanne and Manet are both famous, and lots of Monet's pieces have beautiful water lilies from his garden in them.

The 1800s was a very good time for art.

Well the painting was of his wife Madame Matisse as she was called in the painting Madame Matisse and the green line, the line was simply a reflection of their green wallpaper that's all that it was and her hair was blue because of a reflection aswell

In his studio he wore a white smock.

With the model Caroline Joblau, he had a daughter, Marguerite, born in 1894. In 1898 he married Amélie Noellie Parayre; the two raised Marguerite together and had two sons, Jean (born 1899) and Pierre (born 1900). Marguerite often served as a model for Matisse.

They influenced each other, being leading painters in France. They were friends and rivals and were always conscious of each other's work. ur no i asked you a completly different questionn

In general not in favour of it. They didn't call him 'fauve' for nothing in his early artistic years. The word fauve meaning 'wild' was given to him and his fellow colleagues after starting the impressionistic period with extremely bright colours later called fauvism. Around that time especially academic work like Bouguereau's was popular. People often thought Matisse an incapable painter.

Henry Matisse began working at court until his mother showed him a painting. After he saw the painting Henry began to love art.

Abstract artists use patterns and lines in their art.

i would say Bridget riley she uses atlot of patterns in her work and she uses lines aswell.

In 1937 Lydia Delectorskaya posed for Matisse in a purple robe. At the time Matisse had no intention to paint a portrait that looked like a photograph. When accused of painting unrealistic images of women Matisse explained, "I do not create a woman, I make a picture."
