Why do you think king Henry VIII insisted that everyone in England belong to the church of England?

King Henry didn't build the Church of England, it had been in Britain over a thousand years, he'd been a member all his life and was to continue in it till he died. Neither was there another one till 1570, when a schismatic one was set up in a failed attempt to excite a civil religious war by the Trentites!

What happened when Henry the viii died?

The state of the Church when Henry died was probably one of relief, like coming out from under a wrecked building! But at least the Church in England was intact and whole. It had retained the ancient faith of the apostles and apostolical orders as well and they had survived after their clash with the pope and denying his right to interfere in English religious matters. More over the threat from Lutheranism still loitered, but was not as strong as formerly!

There were other dangers, the new king was young and appeared to have leanings towards Calvinism and around him were gathered the corrupt side of English politics the Seymours and that strange world of the Council where nothing mattered but the aggrandisement of family, even at the expense of religion and country!

Luckily the English Church lived through it, because the Church was the Body Of Christ and the majority of the people believed !

Why did Henry VIII treat his wives so bad?

The overriding ambition of Henry VIII was to produce a son and heir.

His first wife, Catherine of Aragon gave him a daughter, Mary (later Queen Mary)

His second wife, Anne Boleyn, also produced a daughter, Elizabeth, later Queen Elizabeth I

His third wife, Jane Seymour, gave him a son, Edward, later Edward VI of England.

Jane died just two weeks after his birth, and Edward died at the young age of 15.

The other factor which influenced Henry's decisions was his battle with the catholic church. He was determined that his heir would be protestant. Queen Elizabeth certainly was, but she died childless and the Tudor line came to an end.

How old was lady Catherine when prince Arthur died?

Prince Arthur, the elder son of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York, and heir to the throne, was born on 20 September 1486 and died on 2 April 1502, making him nearly 16. His death made his younger brother Henry heir to the throne (Henry VIII). Arthur had been married to Katherine of Aragon, and eventually Henry VIII married Katherine, as it was believed that Katherine's marriage to Arthur had never been consummated. This fact would be turned around in later years, when Henry wanted to divorce Katherine, and needed to find a reason to do so.

I'm King Henry the eighth, and had six sorry wives, some may say I ruined their lives

Catherine of Arogan was one.

She failed to give me a son. I had to ask for divorce. That broke her poor heart of course.

Young Anne Boleyn she was two.

Had a daughter, best she could do.

I said she flirted with some other man. And off the chop went dear Anne.

Lovely Jane Seymour was three.

The love of a life for me. She gave me a son. Little Prince Ed. Then poor old Jane. Went and dropped dead

Divorced, Beheaded and died Divorced, beheaded and survived

I'm King Henry the eighth, and had six sorry wives; some might say I ruined their lives.

Anne of Cleves came at four and fell for the portrait I saw.

Then laid eyes on her face and cried, she's a horse. I must have another divorce.

Catherine Howard was five.

A Child of nineteen, so alive. She flirted with others, no way to behave. The axe sent cath to her grave.

Catherine Parr she was last.

By then all my best days were past. I lay on my death bed, at aged just fifty-five, lucky Catherine the last stayed alive.

What did Henry VIII do to get land?

Henry didn't ,'discover,' the Church in England, it had been there some 1500 years. It was thought to have been brought by S, Joseph of Arimathea and S. Simon Zelotes, the brother of Christ! Because of its provenance the English Church was allowed Pre-Eminence at the Western Councils in the four hundred years before the Reformation. S.Aristobulos was marked as the First Bishop of the Church in Britain!

Further, Henry didn't do anything to the land, as far as I can see, but he did sell off the monasteries in to private ownership, about a quarter of the land redistributed! Even more it was bought by catholics who were not above making a quick penny from the Church. Though this was not the only time Kings had done this, Henry Vth had sold off religious houses to pay for the war in France and ,'Catholic,' monarchs on the continent did just the same thing to raise money from the Church and continued to do so until the 18/19th, Cent. Even the pope didn't scruple to use the Church wealth for the use of his private family wars to enrich his nephews!

What Henry did was to make a full job of it, make it so much more complete and he was so much more successful about it!

The Church of England was, probably, amongst the oldest Christian Churches in the Western World, not excluding Rome!
