Hercules was Zeus' son.

He was born a demi-god. Hercules was born of a god (Zeus) and a human woman... this means he was born a demi-god. It also meant he was born with a goddess (Hera, Zeus' wife) jealous of him. After he completed his 12 labours he got married and lived with his wife for a while until a centaur killed him in revenge for a past wrong. Zeus took pity on his dying son and brought him to Olympus to become a god.

A single shot Continental Arms Co should be a product of Harrington and Richardson, but since the company was in business for over a hundred years (1872 - 1985) and it is probably not serialized and even if it has a serial number there are no records available to check, you will probably never determine its age with any accuracy. My best guess would be sometime after the start of WW1 which ended the supply of inexpensive shotguns from Europe and the early 1950s when the use of 'store brands' became less fashionable.

Hercules is no doubt a really old legend about a demi god that was born to the Greek god Zeus and his wife, Hera. Disney made a movie about him, though, like Aladdin is to Arabian Nights, isn't quite right, but it gets the gist of the legend. At the end, he allegedly becomes a full fledged god when he risks his life for his love, Meg/Megara, when she is thrown into the green whirlpool of the dead, out of which Herc comes alive and glowing, like a god.

His heroic deeds and actions have, through the years, been adapted and expanded to fit many different social and political agendas. Hercules was described as brave, strong, loyal, compassionate, and hard-working.

Hercules is often represented by twin pillars, which are said to represent the Straits of Gibraltar. He is also often represented by a club, his favored weapon.

I can tell you that with the Western Field name, it's not a Browning product. This was a trade name used by Montgomery Ward. It may be marked with a Browning patent, but was probably made by Stevens/Savage.

It depends on the model and condition. The most common models, the 1894 and 1915, bring from less than $100 to as much as $500, with ones in NRA "good" condition averaging in the $150 to $250 range.

The patent date you are looking at does not indicate a year of manufacture. Stevens made many different models of double-barrel shotgun. Which model do you have? sales@countrygunsmith.net

Central Arms Co shotguns were actually made by Davenport for sale by Shapleigh Hardware. Original parts are going to be very difficult to find, since the guns have not been made in well over 60 years. A competent gunsmith could make whatever parts you might need, but the cost might get interesting. www.countrygunsmith.net

1880s to 1940s

Is it "WILSHIRE" or is it "WILTSHIRE"? I have no information on Wilshire, but WILTSHIRE is a known trade name used by the HD Folsom Company on guns they sold to a major hardware/catalog store in New Orleans LA from c.1890-1910. Is the gun break open or muzzleloading? sales@countrygunsmith.net

Depending on the year of manufacture the range is qite large. The value is also signigicantly influenced by the firearms overall condition. I would guess between $300 and perhaps $800. Ofcourse if you can find someone with an emotional attatchment to the specific piece then the worth goes up significantly. Don't get much respect as collectables. A good shooter could bring $100.

No disrespect intended, but honestly, with no more description than you have given, it could be anywhere from $10 to $50,000 or even more. If manufactured in 1818, it could still be a flintlock and by 1909 it would almost certainly be a breech-loader. A "typical" utility double barrel, either a percussion muzzle-loader circa 1830-1880 or an early breech-loader circa 1865-1915, should bring from $100 to $250 as a mantle decoration. Shotguns by the top makers like Westley Richards or Parker Bros will bring thousands of dollars.
