Horse Breeds

Horse breeds refer to the most common and selectively bred population of horses often recorded in a breed registry. The term is used in a very broad sense to identify naturally selected horses in a common location within a limited geographic region.

What breed of horse has spots?

Mainly, there are two specific breeds of horses with spots. The pinto and appaloosa. The pinto has fewer, larger spots, and comes in fewer variations, where the appaloosa has many , smaller spots, and comes in more variations, such as blanket and leopard appaloosa. But keep in mind, that paints and pintos are different, pinto is a breed, paint is a color.

There are actually more than that - Knabstrupper and the English spotted pony are two others.

What do you call a female mustang?

A mustang (Spanish mestengo) is a type of wild horse found in Mexico and in California.

The word 'mustang' does not reveal the gender of the animal, just as sting-ray does not reveal the gender of that type of ray.

If the gender of a horse needs to be known, words such as mare/filly (female), colt/stallion (male), etc are used.

For more information about mustangs, see Sources and Related links below.

What are the 5 most popular draft horse breeds today?

It is hard to pin a ribbon on the five tallest breeds. The most noted tall breed is the Shire, with Samson (a Shire gelding) being the largest horse to ever live. Close behind are the over cold blood, or "draft/draught" horses such as the Irish Draught, the Percheron, or the Belgian. Some warmbloods can reach good size at high 16 hands or low 17 hands. Some crossbreeds can also reach a good size.

What breeds of horses make up the apploosa breed?

The American Appaloosa is now considered a purebred and therefore only two approved, registered, and DNA tested Appaloosas can produce and appaloosa foal. However some registries may only go by color, so any two horses that produce and appaloosa or 'leopard' patterned foal could 'create' an appaloosa.
In the past before the ApHC (Appaloosa Horse Club) was founded, a handful of people decided to save the old Nez Perce indian pony, which carried the leopard complex gene responsible for the spotted coloring of the Appaloosa. The US cavalry had destroyed most of the tribes purebred horses and bred the remaining ones with large, slow draft horses. The people added Thoroughbred, Quarter horse and Arabians to a degree to lighten up the now draft like breed and to 'modernize' it for ranch work and circus shows.

Which breed of horse is commonly used for endurance rides?

Arabian horses have the best stamina. They are ancestors of thoroughbred horses. The 3 most famous Arabians are, the Darley Arabian, the Goldophin Barb and the Beyrley* Turk. Hope it helps=).

How does a wild horse look like?

What age does the Hanoverian horse usually live up to?

10 to 15 years but mini horses can live up to 40

Answer 2:

All horses tend to live from 15 to 30 years of age, with some falling below and above that range.

Can you breed a stud horse to a jenny?

Yes but most pony stallions aren't interested in jennies so you might have to use AI. A good jenny and a good stallion will produce a good hinny but there is always a higher risk of spontaneous abortion than with mules so you might have to try several times to get a foal. Choose a sire no more than 2 hands taller than the jenny and go for quality. Having a hinny foal will increase your jenny's value.

What breed of horse is this?

How much do wild horses weigh?

Horses usually range in the 1000 pounds, It depends on the size and width of the horse as well. If you have a twelve hand pony, its going to be somewhere in the 700-800 range. If you have a 17 hand horse, its going to be more around 1,300-1,500 pounds are so. The weight of the horse really depends on its breed, and how tall it is, and what it eats. If it is over fed, it will weight more than an underfed horse, obviously.

What breed of horse jump the highest?

Thoroughbreds, mostly though of as just speed demons, are actually one of the best jumper breeds. With their long, athletic legs and powerful haunches, they can jump difficult heights, at ease, and at great speeds. They are bred strong and with excellent endurance, which are key traits for a powerful, high jumper. Many other breeds are very well fit for high jumping too.

Is the Lipizaner horse the exact same as the Andalusian horse if so what is the difference?

No. The Andalusian and Lipizzan horses are different breeds. They are closely related, but are distinct breeds with separate breed registries.

The International Andalusian and Lusitano Horse Association has a website, so does The Lipizzan Association of North America.

What horse breeds are the best for hunters and what horse breeds are the best for jumpers?

This will depends on what type of hunters you are referring to. Show hunters need to have a long low actions called 'daisy-cutter' action. Many warmblood breeds, ponies, and Thoroughbreds fit the bill for show hunters, which includes hunters over fences and on the flat.

For field/ fox hunters you want a horse capable of galloping long distances and jumping intimidating obstacles. For this any breed will do so long as they have all of these attributes.

Where did the gray horse originate?

No one is 100% certain where the first grey colored horse appeared, but it is known that the grey mutation occurred thousands of years ago and that all horses carrying the grey gene are related even if they are from separate breeds.

What horse breed is named after a Russian river?

The Russian Don is a breed of horse developed in and named after the steppes region of Russia where the Don River flows. The Don (Russian: ???) is one of the major rivers of Russia. This river rises in the town of Novomoskovsk 60 kilometres southeast from Tula, southeast of Moscow, and flows for a distance of about 1,950 kilometres.
