The best consequence is what happens naturally. If you don't wear your coat you will be cold. If you did not study for the test -you may make a grade less than expected. Sometimes others have to impose consequences. The best ones are designed to teach and address the behavior. Consequences do not have to be punitive or extreme to cause learning or changes in behavior. Research has shown that punishment does not teach. It may cause temporary compliance but as soon as the threat is removed the person may revert back to the same problem behaviors. Why do some people remain calm in emergencies while other panic or are in shock?
I find in strange how in emergencies i remain calm while others are either in shock or panic. Last year i was in an accident and nearly passed out from the intense pain, yet, i remained calm, immediately giving instructions to a family member on what to do and how to help me. Another time, years ago, a family member injured themself and immediately i went into a certain kind of state where i was helping to stop the bleeding, ordering others on what to do, and those two people were in a state of shock, the other in panic. I never wondered about it until now, what causes people to remain calm and clear thinking during emergencies, even their own emergency? Is it survival mode? or flight or fight? or something else entirely?

How can neglect affect someone's development?
Basically, Neglect affects someone's development such that when the needs of that someone is not met, then development is halted or could suffer. Development of a person depends on whether his or her needs are met as a person. It is not only the physical needs and survival needs but also holistic needs including mental, social and emotional needs. When there is neglect, the needs are not met and the person will be deprived thus affects her development.
Since the member of the majority group has more power, the minority member may want to bond with him or her. Then, the majority may be more likely to help the minority person or a member of that group in the future.
