Why is animal behavior included in the study of human behavior?

Animals survive purely off instinct. Although humans have other factors in their behaviors, many behaviors are based off of the same instinctual value,. i.e., a monkey will fight to the death to protect their offspring, as will many human beings.

Animals and humans share many behaviors. A fascinating PBS film entitled "Monkey in the Mirror" discusses that topic. Recent studies of animals in the wild have also revealed that humans and animals also share emotions. Another great PBS production to watch is "Inside the Animal Mind". It is difficult to watch the behavior of chimps and not see a human connection in our similar behaviors.

Why are some people gay and lesbians?

Genetics are one possibility. Some people are gay and believe they were born that way.

Studies have shown that there is a clear physiological difference between the way the brains of gay people process sensory inputs and those of straight or even bi people. It has been found through brain imaging that gay men process smells completely differently to straight men and that the patterns observed are far closer to those seen in straight women.

Our understanding of genetics have changed in recent years to accept the possibility of environmental factors impacting upon the expression of certain genes and this combined with the known fact that some rats are born gay during periods of over population suggest a clear and obvious evolutionary reason for a gayness to exist. If one views evolution through the selfish gene hypothesis one can see that it isn't just a case of passing on your own genes but sometimes it is more advantageous to assist a close relative to pass on theirs. If resources were becoming scarce it would be advantageous to have some of the current generation attracted to their own gender and therefore unable to procreate - prior to modern technology existing or through taking part in an act they find repulsive (straight sex). This would avoid too much demand for resources in the next generation.

It is entirely possible that we all possess a gay gene and that it is often suppressed to some degree. Gay and bisexual people may be born without the ability to suppress this or may only have limited suppression abilities.

Other studies have clearly shown that homosexuality is, however repressed by social norms, clearly visible in behaviors and preferences from the earliest ages of sexual awakening in children.

Or you could prefer to believe that an all loving God chooses to punish some people and make them live a life suppressing their true selves in order to wash away ancient sins that the death of Christ was supposed to have absolved us of already. Some contributors here find that to be an odd way to view a loving God and therefore believe that some people are just born gay and God loves us all. But then some others believe that Christ's death is only for those who accept Him to be their personal savior and take over their lives - thus giving the ability to resist sin. Ultimately, we all have to learn to find our own path and accept ourselves.

Why do people roleplay other people?

Like in roleplay games? Well sometimes when things have a large fanbase that people get into they think up additions to the original story or they don't like how somethings turned out therefore they'd like to change it. So what better way to do that than create a new character or take on the characteristics of an existing character and have them act the way you want them to?

It sounds geeky but it's very good to help boost up the ability to write stories and keeps you thinking. Not only that but it keeps you doing something.

I can't make the lost better for my parents, for the kids (ages 2 -12) for my brother-in-law...etc. I am drowning in exhaustion and can't get ahead and was asked by my counselor of 2x's today of why am I trying to save everyone????

I think you have me confused...I am dealing with a horrible loss...and can't fix or make anybody's life better....I AM NOT TRYING TO KILL ANYONE.

When we "try to save someone" in the sense you are speaking of, it is usually because we hate to see people we care about and love suffer. Sometimes we feel we must be strong to care for our loved ones so that they don't become too overwhelmed by the emotions associated with the death of a family member. You need to remember, you are also within this family group, and you also need to allow yourself to grieve. The grieving period can be considerable and in some circumstances it may take years for a person to get back to "normal" life, especially a parent or spouse.

Just remember that the grieving process your family are going through is natural, and while it is great that you want to be there for them, don't forget about yourself. Make sure you are not withdrawing from your normal life activities too much, and maybe suggest your family members do the same. Keep a healthy diet, as grief can cause people to stop eating, and try to get a good amount of sleep. If this is proving difficult, consult a doctor or perhaps a mental health clinic.

Why are sick people so mean?

Part of this has to do with the prefrontal cortex of the brain. A healthy person doesn't have much of a load on this part of the brain, since they don't have to fight a lot of pain and stress. This part of the brain is what filters inappropriate behavior. Nearly anyone can be nasty, but the front of the brain is trained to where you can hold this back. Now, if you are actively trying to ignore pain, this part of the brain is busy. So a person's responses and behavior will be more raw, since they will come more from the limbic system and be unfiltered.

What is entrepreneur syndrome?

Entrepreneur syndrome,

Entrepreneur syndrome is common where a person who has built a very large and successful business and during the process is forced, by the sheer volume of work, to employ people. The fun starts to go when they become more involved in managing people, dealing with banks and are removed more from the day to day operation of the business. This can create a feeling of loss or irrelevance. Loss, even though they still own the business and are enjoying a well above average income from their success.

Some reconcile themselves with their situation and remain attached but not involved. Other may sell, take the rewards and leave. Many stay and watch the business begin to decline.

This latter group will jump back in and with great vigor begin to rebuilt the business.

When the actions, of this last group, are analyzed we notice two key traits. There are many others but these are the two most prominent.

First they employ the wrong people and get upset when they do not do what they want them to do. Second they sabotage their business by over riding their employee's decisions, making changes to the business without consulting the management, alienating customers and a number of other actions that shrink the size and viability of the business.

In the end of the day they will say something like this. "The business got into trouble because we had the wrong people. I got back in and was successful in re-building it".
