Is Amitriptyline and Vicodin a bad combination?
Not necessarily. I've been on both, separate and in conjunction. Elavil (amitryptyline) is an old antidepressant with a lot of unpleasant side effects. Definatly not a clean drug. Vicodin (hydrocodone) is relatively clean, but still has undesirable side effects. It is very common for them to be prescribed together for pain management, therefore I don't think there is any actual interaction between the two. Adverse reaction would be due to one drug or the other. Assuming that you are concerned regarding the psychological effects of the two: Both drugs have euphoric properties, although different. Eight years ago when I was taking Elavil it was for migraines and always before bed. It always made me very tired and relaxed. Every morning I felt hungover and out of it, not in a good way. This lasted for about 5 hours. I had to stop taking it. I've been on Vicodin for almost 10 years for herniated disks (L4, L5, S1). It can make me feel energetic, social, and give an overall sense of well-being. Even though I know firsthand how dirty Elavil is I'm currently exploring the possibility of taking it again due to severe sciatica in which the Vicodin doesn't touch. Btw, if you take Elavil during the day you'll probably regret it. I did... Hope this helps and I hope if your taking medication for pain management you can find relief. Most of us (myself included) can't due to addicts abusing the system.

This is a common mistake. most people refer to Vicodin as 500, 750 and 1000 mg. That amount on the bottle is actually referring to the amount of acetaminophen (Tylenol). If you look at a prescription bottle of Vicodin it will say 10/1000. the 10 means 10 mg of hydrocodone and the 1000 is the amount of Tylenol. so when someone says they have a script for 1000 mg Vicodin its actually 10 mg of hydrocodone and 1000 mg of acetaminophen.
