Is the term 'Euro Trash' considered racist?
Many white Americans would consider this an insult because it clearly attacks their roots as euros. Even though they won't admit that most of their ancestors belong in the "euro trash" category, that is why the term is so offensive to most people in the US, especially in the Midwest.
This term was used by Mike Milbury, a hockey analyst, live on NBC to describe the style of play by Team Russia during their quarter final match against Team Canada in the 2010 Winter Olympics men's ice hockey game.
Many people felt it was comparable to the term "White Trash", a term commonly used in a derogatory way to describe poverty stricken Caucasians.
The final game of Gretzky's career was a 2-1 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on April 18, 1999 in Madison Square Garden. The national anthems in that game were adjusted to accommodate Gretzky's departure. In place of "O Canada, we stand on guard for thee", Bryan Adams sang "We're going to miss you, Wayne Gretzky". "The Star Spangled Banner", sung by John Amirante, was changed from "O'er the land of the free" to "O'er the land of Wayne Gretzky". He scored his final point in this game, assisting on the lone New York goal scored by Brian Leetch. At the time of his retirement, Gretzky was the second-to-last WHA player still active in professional hockey, Mark Messier, who himself attended the game along with other representatives of the Edmonton dynasty, being the last. Gretzky recently told Scott Morrison that the final game of his career was his greatest day. He recounted: "My last game in New York was my greatest day in hockey...Everything you enjoy about the sport of hockey as a kid, driving to practice with mom [Phyllis] and dad [Walter], driving to the game with mom and dad, looking in the stands and seeing your mom and dad and your friends, that all came together in that last game in New York."

Who is the greatest fighter in New York Islander history?
Simply put...Clark Gillies. Gillies established himself as a fighter during his junior years and carried a reputation with him in to the NHL as a very tough and good fighter. He played from the early 70's through the mid 80's for the New York Islanders and his last year with the Buffalo Sabres. He was strong and tall and many of his fighting victories began to be spoken about throughout the National Hockey League during his first few years in the NHL.
He defeated Flyers tough-guy George Shultz in such an overwhleming manner that he became known as the heavyweight champion of the NHL. His bouts with Terry O'Rielly in the 1979-80 playoffs are also well known. Gillies has been known to say that he never went out looking for a fight, but didn't back away from fighting either. He allowed his reputation to carry the burden, in a similar manner as a father giving the "look" to his son where the fear of punishment was all that was needed.
Also need to mention that he broke Ed Hospadar's face with one punch. You Tube it.
