Excel shotguns were made by Crescent, Crescent-Davis, Iver Johnson, and J. Stevens. If it was made by one of the first two, the number probably isn't a true serial number and the exact age cannot be determined. There are a couple of experts who MIGHT be able to place one of the other two into a range of +/- 5 years.

Less than $100. This is not a good answer what so ever. There are many factors to look at to find the value. even if this shotgun is in terrible condition you can get atleast $150 for it. but if in good to very good condition it can be worth up to $500 dollars. Even more

I, too, have a .32 IJ 1900, and, as such, I have done a bit of research. They were produced in significant numbers in the early 20th century, primarily as cheap, reliable knock-around guns. Average price seems to be between US $50 and $150, depending significantly on condition. Good luck finding anything about serial numbers, though, if they are sequential, your's significantly outdates mine. My particular example was my great grandfather's, and he used it while on his tractor in case of coyote interference (I doubt that it was ever heavily used). Mine sat in a granary for at least 35 years, and, apart from a rusted spring, is still in working order.

I recomend you purchase a copy of blue book of gun values .gun values vary for many reasons.this book is used by most dealers and collectors to help assign value.

A publication entitled Iver-Johnson Arms & Cycle Works Firearms 1871-1993 has a list of most serial #'s with dates of production, published by Gun Show Books Publishing.

Classic Shotguns such as Purdy or Greener are custom built to a Shooter's specifications and are very expensive. Prices of $20,000 for perfect sets of Stocks nd barrels are not unusual.

The Enforcer pistol was basically a scaled .30 cal M1 rifle legally sold & registered as a pistol. They were made by both Universal and Iver Johnson.
The Iver Johnson had a stock that was grooved out at the right of the bolt for the addition of an M2 auto sear that the Universal did not have and the IJ bolt grouping was more "auto convertible" friendly as well. The IJ was often sold in a full auto version to Law Enforcement agencies.

All old and antique firearms are valued mostly by condition, quality and popularity. The true value of any firearm is what is it worth to you,the present owner. I have several good quality L.C.Smith and several Iver Johnsons all in very fine condition. I would consider the Iver Johnsons to be equal to or superior to the highly valued and much praised L.C.Smith. In my opinion the Hercules Grade is every bit as valuable as the lower grade and more popular LCS. The only difference being is that the L.C.Smith collectors are better organized. SaskJack

The 410 should have a smaller frame than the 12 gauge. For $100-$150, you should be able to get a whole 410 Champion.

Neither the Standard Catalog of Firearms nor the Blue Book of Gun Values lists any revolvers under Richland, only shotguns imported from Spain or Italy. Judging from the values these two references assign to the shotguns sold by Richland, I would suspect that they are rather utilitarian. They should work well but not be particularly well-finished or highly decorated. I would assume that any revolvers they imported would be of similar quality.

Sir, How did you determan that the model x, 22 was made in 31? My wife has her grandmothers,nice little accurate single shot. Hers has a 22xxx number on it. She would appreciate any info or where to go to find some info on the model x. Thank you John The Model X was only made from 1927 to 1932, and that rifle is close to the end of production so 1931 is a pretty good estimate. These rifles in excellent condition might get $150, but specimens in typical condition usually bring $80-$100. www.countrygunsmith.net

THE REASON THE IVER JOHNSONS ARE HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER, IS PURE AND SIMPLE. THEY ARE A GREAT AND ACCURATE GUN. VERY WELL MADE. I HAVE EVERY GAUGE OF THE IVER JOHNSON CHAMPION SHOTGUN AND THE HERCULES AND SKEETER MODELS. I WOULD PUT THEM UP AGAINST ANY REMINGTON OR WINCHESTER THAT WERE MADE. The first course of action to discern the value of a gun is to identify the make, model, manufacturing date, variation and condition. The book "Iver-Johnson Arms & Cycle Works Firearms 1871-1993" by W. Goforth may help accomplish this. Then it's a simple matter of looking your gun up in one of the many firearm value books, such as the Blue Book of Gun Values, or the Standard Catalog of Firearms.

At one time, Iver Johnson serialized their firearms with letters. The scheme was using the word "Fitchburg" (where factory was located) F=1,I=2,T=3, etc. If my memory serves me correctly, the "X" stood for zero. HFUX=5170.

Do you know the model name or number? I'm guessing it is a single shot Champion valued from $25 for a parts gun to $125 in Excellent condition with a plain rib. The version with a matte rib runs about $25 higher and the Trap Grade with a ventilated rib ranges from $100 to $275. Double barrel guns will be higher.
