Iver Johnson Firearms

Last week I purchased a used Iver Johnson Cadet in .38 S&W not the .38 Special the gun was in very good condition with a holster and 50 rds of ammo included with the purchase . I paid $125 ! Which I feel was a very fair price ! Iver Johnson and the Harrington & Richardson revolvers in good to excellent condition are going up in value , unfortunately .32 S&W and .38 S&W ammo is on the pricey side , but are still great self-defence calibers . If your .38 is in good condition without a holster I would say it is worth $110-$140 !

I bought a champion singel shot 410 about 8 years agon for $129. It does not have a serial number on it. The gun is old but I don't know how old. No cracks in the wood.

Iver Johnson made single barrel and side-by-side double barrel shotguns from 1909 to 1956. Over under doubles were also imported from Italy. The values of the guns can go to $2000 for an excellent example of the Skeeter model double barrel with prices tumbling fast for lower grades in less good condition. It would be best to have a local gunsmith evaluate it for you at a nominal charge.

it depends on what grade (skeeter, hercules...), and what kind of condition of the gun. A lots of people are looking for skeeter grade ( us $1000 and up), Hercule grade 250 to 500 range. I hope this info. will be useful. ted it range 250 to 500 dollars.

i think its from 1935 from my research I own one as well (iver johnson arms & cycle works safety bolt action) (------fitchburg.mass.11.9.A--------22 short long & long rifle--) model x pat.1.673.666) barrel is a little rusty thats as much as i can make out and some thing may be wrong but i know the first (___) is right

Iver Johnson manufactured the Champion line of single barrel shotguns in a variety of gauges as well as .44 and .45 caliber with 26 to 32" barrels, external hammers, and automatic ejectors, blue with a walnut stock, between 1909 and 1956.

According to the guide I use, IJ Made a "Special Trap Single Shot Hammer Shotgun" and a "Super Trap Hammerless Double". Both discontinued in 1942.

there is no REAL value to Iver Johnson guns. so, it does not pay to pay for repairs or buy parts to repair same unless it is an heirloom and you wish to keep it. for parts try: gun-parts.com if still looking for parts

With the gun closed, grasp the front end of the forearm and pull it away from the barrel. Depending on the condition of the retaining spring and pin, this could take some effort. Once the forearm is removed, grasp the barrel in the left hand and the grip area in the right (with your right hand as though you are holding it as to shoot it). With the right thumb, move the release lever to the right so that the gun will break open. Now the barrel will come off completely and you are ready to clean. If you are in need of further breakdown, seek the help of a local competent gunsmith.

Manufactured for Belknap Hardware by several different companies between 1890 and the mid 1940s. Additional markings may determine which company and may narrow the range of possible dates. Value will be less than $75.

I have an IJ TARGET Model 1900 my father bought in the mid 1930's (serial # 32084). It's a .22 caliber and it was made in Fitchburg, Mass. That's all I know about it but I'm looking for more info. If you find a good source of historical data please let me know. .22 long or .22 short, not .22 long rifle.

The first course of action to discern the value of a gun is to identify the make, model, manufacturing date, variation and condition. The book "Iver-Johnson Arms & Cycle Works Firearms 1871-1993" by W. Goforth, may help accomplish this. Then it's a simple matter of looking your gun up in one of the many firearm value books, such as the Blue Book of Gun Values, or the Standard Catalog of Firearms.

Look under Iver Johnson Arms and Cycle Company. Their hammerless revolver was sold under several trade names, including US Revolver Co. You can probably find one for sale on one of the online auction sites.

Not much of a collector's market for these. Rarely go over 125.

This gun is chambered for .38 Smith & Wesson (called 38 S&W) NOT .38 Smith & Wesson Special (called 38 Special). If it is in good condition it should fire modern 38 S&W ammunition, which is loaded down to permit using it in older guns. If the gun is worn or loose, have it checked by a gunsmith before using it. The life you save may be your own.
