JC Higgans 16 gauge bolt action shot guns were made for Sears between 1962 -1969 by High Standard. They were very dependable and still are for the old school people who can work a bolt action.

583 15 20 gauge is quite old 1948 DO NOT SHOOT STEEL SHOT in this gun. I have a good inventory of parts for these guns .Numirch arm s. gun parts should have the magazine spring . The wooden magazine plug is entirely differant problem due to the age of your gun these parts were usually dicarded by the original owners it would be rare the find an original.I own several of these plugs . They are a rather simple thing.A 3 eigths wooden dowel 9 inches long originals are actually marked J C HIGGINS Stamped and printed like a pencil.Please take note of no steel shot .If your intention is to water foul with the old girl . Use bismuth .You absolutly can not use steel shot in your gun you will ruin the gun after the first shot.

Did you try the web site for GunPartsCorp? I've purchased parts from them over the years. The older the firearm, the less chance they have the part. BUT... It's worth a try!!

The first three numbers Sears code identifies the maker. Insome cases Sears actually was in fact the maker For instance any gun marked 583 means house brand exclusive Sears product .583 (High Standard Manufacturing )High Standard Was owned by Sears & Roebuck 1947 to 1963 . All shotguns 22 rifles and revolvers marked 583 were the licensed property of Sears not High Standard.High Standard made no shotguns or rifles except for Sears .Next Vendor codes 103 =Marlin firearms 101= Savage arms corp105 =H&R In the case of vendors They pretty much sold there regular product with Sears name on it with what ever changes that Sears wanted,usually to give a Sears Identity or meet a price point.

The J C Higgins model 20 pump shotgun 583 55 was actually made by Sears. Sears and Roebuck & co. owned High Standard and held all the licenses for this gun .583 means House brand exclusive Sears product. 55 is the Sears code for the year 1948

your shotgun was made in1952 It is one the greatest bolt action shotguns ever made .Sears owned High Standard Manufacturing back then. Sears bought the company to make this and several other fire arms exclusively for them . Sears owned the pattens .In the case of your gun It is based on an H&R patten bought by Sears .Your shotgun in depending on condition is worth between 100 and 200 bucks depending on who whats it.

The J C Higgins model 41 /103 19770 Was made by Marlin Firearms.1959 .103 is the Sears vendor code for Marlin .The model 41 is the same as the the Marlin Glenfield model 10. These are very nice little rifles that are well known for accuracy.

IDK for sure but i found one in the traders guide for $125. The description said its a JC Higgins, 22 cal pistol, Model88, 4 and a half inch barrel with holster for $125.

The "Savage/ Stevens" model 311, 12 gauge uses 2 3/4" shells. Just make sure that you do not use a hard shoot (steel,tungsten, etc.) in it or any of the new high pressure shells in it.

It's more like who made guns for Sears. J C HIGGINS is a brand name for SEARS. To give you an example. Both Daisy and Crosman air guns made air guns for Sears under the J C Higgins name. So did Marlin and several other gun companies make rifles, guns and shotguns. Sears stopped selling guns and rifles in the early 80's.

I have one in my possession that is rated as "Very Good" by my local appraiser and I paid $15 US for it 6 years ago. He estimated its value at $16 to make me feel good. :) It is complete with the original cotton bag in "Good" shape.

I saw another a few weeks ago in nearly perfect condition with only one tiny spot of brass showing and having no visible scratches and the guy was asking $25. He said he had the original box and sales receipt but could not produce them.

No it is not only 12 gauge guns have been recalled.The Recall is baseless Their is nothing wrong with any of these guns .These guns are based on an old H&R patten .The issue has to do with the bolt stop screw. This is the bolt on the left side of the rceiver. This is the screw you take out to remove the bolt. If this bolt were to fail or fall out .Their would be nothing to hold the bolt in the gun when cycling between shots . This is a problem with every gun of this type H&R 120 /121 /348 /349 Sears ranger 105 (H&R 120) or Sears model 10 .Simply make sure that this screw is in good shape present and tight and you have nothing to worry about even with 12 gauge guns . What Sears should have done was send customers new screws it s a no brainer instead they ruined thousands of perfectly good shotguns . I question Sears motives They used to be a good company .

i just bought a 583 12 ga in very good cond for $100.00 which seemed very reasonable. anything under around $150.00 would seem reasonable

if it is a single shot 22 cal. try model # 10318 i recently came into one and have been looking up stuff about them too.
