AnswerI have the mod.20 pump 12 Ga., ventilated rib w/ Choke(var.) & Compensator. I bought it sometime in the 1950s from Sears, But I don't remember what the price was . It is still in tip top condition. I don't believe I would part with it ,after all these years..... AnswerI bought a J.C.Higgins Mod. 20 in 1949 for sixty-nine dollarsa. A Winchester Mdl.12 cost $139.00 and I couldn"t afford that much. When was the JC Higgins model 88 22cal revolver made and by what company?

Most if not all of the J. C. Higgins pistols were made by High Standard.

There is a web site that claims the JC Higgins model 88 22cal revolver was made in the 1960's 1980's for Sears & Roebuck. And also there were a couple of sites that list the price for this gun between $25 and $75 all the way to $150.

As far as the date, however, another WikiAnswers visitor says he bought a new Model 88 in the spring of 1953 as a household gun and still has it in the original box along with all of the documentation on the revolver that came in the box. It was bought at Sears in Wichita, Kansas.

The first guns shipped in February 1955 1953 is too soon The original assembly drawing is dated June 1954.

AnswerThe 583 prefix on a Sears gun indicates manufacture by either Hi Standard or Harrington and Richardson.

The 583 revolvers were all High Standard manufacture.

1957 or earlierThe first time I was ever exposed to firearms was when I was five years old. My father took me along when he and a friend went out to shoot. I stayed in the car because the noise frightened me. I still have the gun my dad was shooting that day -- a JC Higgins Model 88. The year would have been 1957, so the model 88 goes back at least that far. these revolvers were made by High standard wich was owned by Sears in thouse days this madle was the first revolver made by High standard and at that time exclusive Sears product. It was first introduced in 1955 and was made until 1962 .High standard eventually sold this revolver on their own around 1957 they called it the sentinel revolver These guns are of very high quality and excellent shooters a J C Higgins Model 88 in excellent cond . is on a par with better quality 22 revolvers and usually sell for several hundred dollars.

It was not an exclusive seras product.. Serial number 1 went to Sears and serial number 2 was sold with the High Stadanrd brand. Sears only owned 30% of the High Standard commmon stock It was sold through the end of 1963 and those not sold were returned to High Stadnard and remarked to remove the Sears connection.

What is the value of a 16 gauge JC Higgins bolt action?

I have a bolt action 6 shot 16ga. I paid $65 for it at a pawn shop. It has seen moderate use and remains a well functioning, useable gun. I have seen them in pristine condition for $100 at the most. It really depends on the model such as 583 1 to 583 25 were what are refered to a the Sears model 10 these guns espcially one 583 1 to 583 13 in good or better cond are twice what the later series 583 14 to 583 25 wich on average of 100.bucks However if your JC Higgins is 585 1100 583 1101 or 583 1102 the much improved Sears model 11 they will fetch more 125 bucks or more I would also like to add that sears has enacted a voluntary recall on all the JC Hggis 12 and 16 gauge bolt action shotguns. It seems that the pin that keeps the bolt from flying out can loosen and fall off. Thus when the shooter fires the gun, he's hit with the bolt HARD. They will give you a 50 dollar giftcard for sending them the bolt of the gun. Thus rendering the gun inoperable. You can keep everything else.

Who made the Sears bolt action 12 Ga model?

The sears bolt actions were made under contract by Savage, Mossberg, and Marlin. You can order a catalog from Gun Parts Corp. and cross refrence your sears model No. for the manufactor According to the highstandard.info web site, J.C. What is the value of a JC Higgins model 33 22 cal pump rifle?

Hi, I have one that I inherited and wouldn't take anything for it. Mine has a 4X Weaver scope on it and is a blast to shoot. So value is a personal thing. If not sentimental, probably no more than $150.00 in perfect shape or whatever the top bid is at an auction.

Where can you find a schematic and parts list for a Savage Model 1914 22 cal rifle?

Try www.ponderosaparts.com/templates/template2.asp?Sel=M&Pkg=5129. If this helps, please email me at Chip.Moore@DOT.gov. I have a model 1914 that is missing an internal part, but I'm not sure what it looks like...

What is the value of a 1957 JC Higgins 12 gauge bolt action shotgun?

I don't really know the value of the J C Higgins 12 gauge shotgun as a colectable but I do know that Sears is offering $50 gift certificates for the return of the bolt to their offices. Apparently there was a voluntary recall of the bolt receiver and Sears will pay for the bolt to make the gun inoperable. CONTACT: Peggy Palter of Sears, 847-286-8309 Not all JC Higgins shotguns are affected by the recall. And the compensation is $160. * The shotguns were sold in Sears stores and through its catalog as the J.C. Higgins Bolt Action 12-Gauge Model 10 Shotgun during the 1950s. It was carried under a number of product numbers: 583.13, 583.14, 583.15, 583.16, 583.17, 583.18, 583.19, 583.20, 583.21 and 583.22. The product model number is engraved on the barrel of the shotgun. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the shotgun. Call 800-817-9165 for identification verification and instructions on return procedures. If your shotgun is not one of these, it's value is about $75 to $125, depending on condition.

How common is the Higgins 410 tube fed bolt action shotgun?

The J.C. Higgins line of shotguns is quite common. They were distributed a lot by mail order catalog companies like Sears & Roebuck, Montgomery Ward, etc. They were also made in 20, 16, & 12 gauge models. Not a real expensive piece, but fun to play around with nevertheless.

CorrectionThe JC Higgins line of shotguns was solely retailed by Sears. That was a brand name specific to them and never used by Western Auto, Montgomery Wards, etc. The shotgun referred to in the question was actually manufactured by Savage/Stevens and that particular model was not sold by Sears in anything other than .410. The larger gauge bolt-action shotguns sold under the JC Higgins brand are typically High Standard Model 10 or 11.

What is the value of a model 51-L?

I have recently purchased a 270.cal HVA Action Rifle, this rifle is swedish made, in 1969. It is also a JC Higgins M51-L. I paid $350.00 for it.The price for it will go for about $550.00 to $700.00 depending on the condition of the rifle. By the way my rifle looks brand new. I was told to hang on to it, not many own these guns. J.C. Higgins Model 50 & 51 By Jon Y. Wolfe The J.C. Higgins Model 50 was the creation of the Sears and Roebuck Co. in the early 1950s. Although not manufactured by Sears, the giant retailer was certainly instrumental in their creation and importation. Information on these rifles often conflicts so I have included information derived from the predominant consensus and my own findings of fact. The Model 50 was originally produced by Belgium's Fabrique Nationale using a commercial 98 Mauser action and 22 inch chrome lined barrel from High Standard. The chrome-lined barrels were limited to Models 50 and 51. Later models included the Model 51/51-L built on the FN and Husqvarna actions, Model 52 by Sako, and the last Model 54 by Browning. Some report that the later Model 51 was simply an imported Husqvarna 640 and the Model 52 was simply a relabeled Sako L46. It is true that Husqvarna used FN actions on the 640, but the barrel and wood on the Model 51 are different than that found on the HVA 640. The rifle was advertised and sold through Sears and Roebuck Co. and each rifle's barrel was marked as such. All variations included a model number on the left side of the barrel just at the end of the forearm, and a code that corresponds to the date of manufacture. For example, mine is stamped 583.100. The rifles were only chambered in .270 Winchester and .30-06 Springfield. Mine is chambered in .30-06. Overall length is 43 inches, it has a healthy 13 3/4 length of pull, and the original model 50 was supplied with a no frills walnut stock without checkering. Sling swivel studs and a polymer butt plate were standard. Subsequent models, like the Model 51-L that I own, have a walnut stock with a full wrap around cut checkered forearm and a raised check piece. The bolt is the traditional controlled feed type with a one piece polished bolt body, one-piece firing pin, and a two-position short-throw 45 degree safety to accommodate the use of a scope. The bolt handle is consistent with the "Second Pattern FN Action" in that it sweeps back to allow clearance for a scope. The bolt head has the traditional two locking lugs and the rear safety lug. The extractor is large and prominent. Each bolt was electro penciled to the rifle using the last three digits of the serial number, which was located on the right side of the receiver. The bolts used on these FN Belgium made actions are of the highest quality and durability. The drilled and tapped receiver, hinged floorplate, trigger guard, and magazine follower are all made from milled steel. The floorplate has a button release for emptying the cartridges, and the trigger is grooved for a positive feel. The trigger mechanism on the Model 50 is heavy but there is minimal creep. I've talked with some folks who replace them with the Timney 98FN Sportman 101, which requires a little modification of the inletting and no safety modification. The barrel comes with open sights and is 22 inches long. It has a sporter contour that tapers to .5 inch diameter at the muzzle. All reports on the accuracy of J.C. Higgins Model 50s and subsequent variations have been favorable. In addition to its inherent accuracy, the Models 50 and 51 came with chrome lined barrels, thus adding to the useful service life of these rifles. Weight is 8 1/2 pounds bare and unloaded. The overriding consensus regarding the J.C. Higgins Model 50 is that it's a rifle worth holding on to if you have one, and worth seeking out if you do not. Prices are generally suppressed because of the department store association. Despite this, it is among the finest hunting rifles ever mass produced. This point is emphasized by the fact that these can be bought at bargain prices. Expect to pay between $200 and $400 depending on condition and how much the seller knows about this fine rifle. If one were to build such a gun today using the same FN action, the price would easily exceed $1000.

What is the value of a JC Higgins 16 ga bolt action tube magazine shotgun model 583-8?

I own two JC Higgins bolt action tube magazine shotguns in 20 gauge. I paid $70 for one that I cut down to Shoot slugs and another I paid $60 for with a poly-choke. Also I was looking on an gun auctioneers website and two 16 ga's as separate auctions went from 100 to 130 in good condition

Who was the manufacturer and what is the value of a J.C.Higgins Model 30?

This is the High Standard Model 200. It is booked at $175 for 100% condition, to $90 in 60%.

Answerthere is some questions as to who actually made your weapon. according to some sources the model 28, 29, 30 were all actually made by the company j c Higgins. the 31 was made by high standard. some insist that there was no j c Higgins, it was just a guy at sears. this is true. the was in accounting in the 1930 and 1940's and agreed to let them use j Higgins (sears added the c ) for the sporting goods line. the use of the name all but stopped in 1961 with the introduction of the ted Williams line of sporting goods for sears. john Higgins himself died in 1964 and received no money for the use of his name all those years. the manufacture date of your rifle is around the late 40's early 50's. most do not have a seriel number so actual dating is hard. thanks AnswerThe Sears model 30 was manufactured by High Standardd For a manual see www.histandard.info

I believe if you check the service manual for a High Standard Sport-King Carbine Model A-102, you will find it is the exact same rifle.

$75 to $100 for a Model 25 in good working condition in about 75% new condition. Look up the HIGH STANDARD Model A-1041 for information on the action of the JC Higgins mocel 25.

Go to this site and you can down load the Manuals for Free for this rifle.
