well fist of all the xjs is a two door V-12 and the xj40 is a four door. also the xj40 was supposed to be a newer and better xj6 but in my opinion the xj40 with those square headlights and boxy look is one of the ugliest jaguars ever built. "just not a looker"

check and see if the thermostat been removed

To remove the radio on a 1992 Jaguar XJ6:

1. Open the center console storage compartment.

2. Remove the two screws closest to the ashtray.

3. The ashtray can now be pulled straight up.

4. Disconnect the electric cable for the sports mode button.

5. Underneath the stick shift trim, there are two wing nuts, loosen these.

6. CAUTION: Carefully reach underneath the shifter assembly and remove the plastc, chrome retainer trim which holds the shifter base, by gently pushing on the side tabs. Note that if you break the tabs, you will need to buy a new ring or you will not be able to hold the shifter base in place. This small, insignificant looking plastic retainer trim will cost you upwards of $80.

7. Once the plastic retainer trim is out. The trim cover comes off easily.

8. Remove the screws holding the AC Controls, radio and pull out.

9. Disconnect all cabling. The radio should now be easy to remove.

10. Reverse steps to install.

Assuming a V12 (the six cylinder is obvious), you really have to detach and displace the aircon compressor (you don't have to disconnect the hoses) to access the front 4 plugs, and also remove the throttle pedestal to access the rear plugs. The brake is a little different on these cars, you pull it up and let it fall to set it then you pull it up a little higher THEN push the button and let it down to release it

There is a flap inside the wheelarch with a little plastic swivel clasp on it. Undo, pull flap down (or out can't remember) and change bulb from there.

Using a wide screwdriver or such object gently pry between the panel and the door to pop the clips out. grab bottom of door panel and rock back and forth while lifting panel of off window channel on top. Be careful of the wires to the door locks.

any good multi grade oil will work fine.

Remove the plastic access panel in front of the front wheel (not the whole splashguard). You'll then see the headlamp connector. Squeaze and lift off the locking wire and the bulb will come out. Chris, www.kwecars.com
