What did Pocahontas do to help Jamestown?
She didn't . The story is not true. The story we know is not true. Actually the colonist landed in an area of 14,000 Native Americans and in the worse land in the area. Powhatan pretty much left them alone. I think he figured that they would die from the bad water and disease . He was fairly right. Within 6 months there were only 34 men left alive of the 104 who came. It wasn't until after his death that the brother of Powhatan attacked the colony. The story about Smith is also not true. He did NOT save Jamestown. He was only there a very few months and he lied about his contribution to the settlement in a book he wrote several years later. He also made up the story about Pocahontas and she died young so couldn't refute his story. The man who did save Jamestown was the husband of Pocahontas and gave tobacco seeds to the colony. That was John Rolfe.
What were the jobs in jamestown?
In 1607 the London Company sent 104 men in three ships to VA to establish a colony. They built a fort on swampy land and within 6 months most of the 104 were dead or sick. Most of the men who came were there to look for riches and gold. They didn't plant crops or prepare to survive the cold winters of VA. The men were a combination of military, outlaws, and gentlemen. There were no "jobs" in Jamestown and was a fort of men who were looking for gold. Part of the problem was they didn't plant crops, nor hunt, or do what they needed to live.
The political reason was to create an English presence in North America to curtail further expansion by Spanish Florida. It was also created as an economic business venture in the hope of making a profit for its shareholders.
What was different about Jamestown?
It was the first colony and it almost failed because the men who went there didn't go to settle but to seek gold and fortunes. The only reason it continued was because they found tobacco and that saved them. It had no women, no families, and the first slave.
