What was the year when bach wrote his first symphony?

The answer would be c. 1723. But what he called Sinfonia was quite different from what we mean using the term today. He used the word for the three-part keyboard pieces he composed c. 1723 for his first son, Wilhelm Friedemann, for practicing his keyboard technique.

Bach also used the term Sinfonia for the instrumental movements, most of which in concerto form, which opened some of his cantatas.

Sinfonia, which is Italian spelling for the Greek term symphonia, simply means "sounding together" or "coordinated sounds". The Italian translation would be "concerto".

Where did bach live most of his life?

Johann Christian Bach lived in his home town of Leipzig in Germany until he was twenty-one years old, he then moved to Italy where he stayed for six years. Then, in 1762, he moved to London where he spent the remaining twenty years of his life, hence the nickname 'the English Bach'. He is buried at St. Pancras Churchyard in London.

I researched the exact whereabouts of Bach's house and apparently he lived at 80 Newman St. in London between 1773 and shortly before his death in 1782.

What caused JS Bach's death?

He died because nobody lives for ever. If anyone could, I would wish it were him. If you mean what caused his death, it was reported at the time as complications following an eye operation. Some now believe it was a combination of pneumonia and stroke. Either way, it ended the life of a truly great composer.

What is bach most popular music?

Bach was fairly popular in his day but he lived under the shadow of George Philip Telemann. Telemann was the greatest composer of his day because he combined many popular styles from different nationalities.

Bach was well respected too though. He would have been amoungst the greatest composers of the day. It was only after Mendelssohn's revival of the composer that Bach really took off in popularity though, as Telemann became less celebrated.

But in a nutshell, yes, he was popular in his day. But only in later years was he recognised as a genius.

Who is Johann Christian Bach And are Johann Christian Bach and Johann Sebastian Bach the same people?

Actually, they are not the same person. Johann Christian Bach is the son of Johann Sebastian Bach . You can check http://www.jsbach.org/timeline.HTML for more information also.

No, they are not the same person. Johann Christian as well as Wilhelm Friedemann, Carl Philip Emmanuel, and Johann Christoph (Johann was a popular name in their family) were all sons of Johann Sebastian Bach. For a complete Bach family tree you can look at Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bach_family

The confusion with the names probably stemmed from the Anna Magdalena Bach Notebook. One year, J.S. Bach gave his wife, Anna Magdalena, a birthday present - a beautiful notebook with blank pages for her and her children to copy their favourite songs into. This notebook has been preserved, and contains many pieces in the "gallant" style (simple and elegant, many are dance pieces). Some are pieces written by J.S. Bach himself, some are written by Anna Magdalena, some are written by one of the children, and some are written by family friends. Unfortunately, the names of the composers were never written in with the pieces (copyright wasn't a big deal in those days), so in the past, all of the pieces from the Notebook were published under the name of J.S. Bach. Now, more research has been done and we have a little better understanding of the respective composers. I hope that helps.

Johann Christian Bach was descendant of Johann Sebastian Bach so no they are not the same person.

How many songs did Johann Sebastian Bach write?

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) wrote over one-thousand compositions. A catalog numbering system was created in 1950 by Wolfgang Schmieder and each composition was assigned a BWV number.

BWV is the German acronym for Bach-Verke-Verzeichnistranslated: Bach Work Catalog. The numbering system grouped works thematically, so they are not in any chronological order. Thus, a low number as in BWV 232 does not necessarily mean that this was an early work of JS Bach.

The present BWV catalog indicates there were 1,127 works written by Bach.

It should be noted, though, that a small number of these works are now thought to have been attributed to Bach in error, and that many of his works are known to have been lost after his death, meaning that the total number of works he actually wrote is significantly higher.
