John Deere's parents were William and Sarah Deere.

NAPA Auto Parts part#'s 1394(Premium), or 21394(economy). Both of these are made by WIX oil filters.

One reason might be that the tractor company John Deere bought out (Waterloo Gasoline Engine Works) featured green and yellow tractors. Another possible explanation is that John Deere wanted to associate their equipment with agriculture by painting it green and yellow like ripe field corn. There is no for sure answer but these are the two most likely I have found.

It is said that the main advantage of a John Deere snow plow is that the snow throwers provide great help to those people whose physical condition is not very good.

The auger has a hollow shaft that has the drive shaft running through the inside of that shaft. The shear pin is located on each side of that auger. There should be two shear pins, one for each side of the blower. Clear whatever caused the shear out of the blower before restarting.

Here's a good solution. Buy/borrow a hydraulic car jack and place it under the front axle frame or the frame of the tractor itself to jack up the front. To jack up the back place the jack under the rear axle frame. Remember to always put blocks under the mower next to the jack (make sure the blocks are the same height as you want the mower off the ground) so that if the jack fails or slips the mower will not fall on you. Lift up the seat. The black screw cap is the filler port, the rubber tube that extends down from it is the dipstick.

In the manual and on warning label's the age to drive a John Deere Gator (or any full-size ATV for that matter) is 16.

It is supposed to neutralize itself when pressure is taken off the pedals unless it has the fender-mounted cruise control. If so equipped, the brake pedal is supposed to move it to neutral when depressed.

Adjustment is accomplished on the right side on the linkage back near the transsaxle inside the frame.

The procedure for timing is relatively well written in the JD 336 baler operators manual. You can order one from the John Deere folks at 800-522-7448. Don't get suckered in by EBay. I saw one manual go for $60 on Ebay when a brand new one costs $30 from John Deere.

I would not recommend buying these boots online as it is better to obtain a good, healthy fit. You would likely harm your feet otherwise. I suggest you go to your local provider and ask them for advice.

The serial number is riveted on the main case ahead of the operator platform, either on the flywheel or clutch side.

The John Deere LX172 38 inch blade deck uses a 65 by 1/2 inch V belt. If you ask for a 65 inch belt at an auto parts or hardware store, there is no need for a multi-numeral part number.

I believe you have a defective seat switch. The switch is designed to sense if the operator is setting on the tractor when the PTO is engaged. For instance, if you stop moving and step off the tractor with the PTO engaged, it will kill the engine for safety reasons. When the switch is defective or has a disconnected/broken wire, the switch will not send a signal that there is a person on the seat.

The switch is located either on the tractors seat pan under the seat or may be located in the seat itself. It is easy to test the switch with an ohm meter, if the switch tests good, work your way back the wires until termination to look for failures.

If you are a person of light weight, the switch can be adjusted for sensitivity by loosening the lock nut and raising the switch higher on the seat pan or further into the seat.

Other things to check;

1. while setting on the seat with the key on but not running, you may hear a click when you turn the PTO switch on.

2. If the above is true, remove the spark plug wire(s) and attempt to turn the blades by hand, they should move freely.

3. If the above is not true, something is binding the deck/blades which will cause the engine to die.

4. Remove the belt the goes from the PTO to the deck and try turning on the PTO as normal, if the engine dies, it is likely the seat switch. If not, it is likely that the deck is the cause.

You have to first get the belt in place, but don't put it over the tightener. This is done easily enough if you slide the deck past all the connection points. Then allign the 2 main arms and pin them in, pin in the weight transfer cable, (connects to the left foot pedal,) and there is one additional connect on the back of the deck, a strange linkage deal. Then put the belt over the tightening pulley and engage it.

You need a good socket set and a torque wrench. Remove plastic covers from right and left sides. Belt guides must be loosened (but do not take nuts completely off, just enough to get new belt on), Start the belt from the back and work it over the left and right guides, tighen nuts (torque back to 35 lbs), then work belt around the tension guide, now with torque wrench still on tensioner, use the wrench to pull the tensioner forward and work belt over the front engine puller, tighten tension pully nut to 35 pounds and replace covers. I use honda-tight (blue) will all nuts and fastners.
