I would say no. Kt17** had no filter. Kolher gave the the grace to the owner to change oil on a hourly usage plan. It was one of there early demise isuses. The 317 was a great tractor but over rpm of the engine made for blown seales and oil useage. If it still runs well just stay on the 300 hour drain and fill time

An easier question to answer would be what DIDN'T John Deere improve. Everything from the steel plow to the tractor to the square baler has been touched in some way by John Deere's influence. Without John Deere, we would have a very bleak world in agriculture today.

ok first what is the problem or concern?

Hyd system in this tractor consist of:

internal pump located in the very front of the transmission this pumps supplies oil to the whole lubrication and hydraulic system is redirected from this pump to the pto valve located on top of the transmission is a square valve where the shifters seats into from here if there is any leak in this valve the whole system will fail is very easy to identified a problem here this valve redirects oil to lube circuit, hi low, pto on or brake clutch and 4 wheel drive clutch plus any exces of oil goes to the main pump situated in front of the tractor

The steering is accomplished by a multi-disc slip clutch on each side's final drive, which is spring-applied and gradually released as you pull back on the lever. At the end of the stroke a band brake applies to fully stop the output to the track and brakes the track.

Common problems are adjustment problems, fixed by opening the cover and adjusting the pressure plate tension or band brake adjustment.

Another issue is rust or corrosion locking up the disks so you can't stop one side or the other without pulling the engine down. Also, the main clutch can go out too.

I had a similar problem on a GT262 last month. I used the tractor to push some snow around, stored it in the garage, went to start it a few weeks later, and it wouldn't start. When I pulled the valve cover off, the intake push rod was just laying there. It wasn't bent and the valve spring was OK. I used a wrench to lift the rocker arm and put the rod back in place. The engine fired right up.

The only reasonable explaination that the valve had stuck open. It could have been when the engine was last shut down, the crank was positioned so the valve was open. After sitting for a couple of weeks in that position, it failed to close, or close fast enough, when the engine was cranked. The simplest remedy is to use a fuel/oil additive to try to clean up whatever was causing the sticking.

If the grass exits the right side of the deck, then the threads are normal right handed treads. If the grass exits the lefts side of the deck, then the bolts thread are left handed threads.

There's nothing special about John Deere oil. It's made at the same plant that makes every other brand of oil and puts it in different containers with different names on it.

actually there is a difference and you should put john deere oil in your tractors we do that on our farm and the motor run a hole lot better.

well i think you should puit any oil in it because oil is oil ding donggg... andddd who cares if its different its your fault if you mess up your tractor.....

The best oil for any brand of vehicle or equipment is the brand that matches. Deere oil for Deere, GM oil for GM etc. The base oil may be the same but the additives are unique to each brand and specified by the product engineers. Anyone that tells you anything else is not informed of the facts.

i just done it on a x300r which might be the same.lift the hood up look inside the body where the ignition is.you will see a black connector with maybe 5 wires or so.unplug this and then squeeze inwards the 2 holding clips either side of the ignition with 2 screwdrivers or similar as there is not enough room for both fingers.the ignition barrel will push up and out of the dash. all done !
