Juan Ponce de Leon's purpose for his journey was to find the Fountain of Youth which was a big myth in Europe back then. While looking for the fountain though he did end up landing in present day Florida and he is the one who gave Florida its name. He never found the fountain at Florida so he then went looking at a Carribean island called Bimini, he didnt find it there either. He had also conquered Puerto Rico and established San Juan, he was the governor for a while until being removed.
