Why is the Bible constantly translated?
Although the Word of God does not change, languages and dialects do change over time. Most new translations of the Bible are an attempt to adjust for this change. For example, in 1611 (when the King James Version was written), common Anglo-Saxon (English) speech included words like, "thee", "thou", "thy", "hast", etc. Outside of some churches (and Shakespeare class), these words are rarely used today. The only way to read the bible as it was originally intended to be heard is to fluently learn Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek and read each book in its native language. A word of warning - be careful to use discernment to determine whether a translation is a genuine attempt to accuately portray the Word of God or an attempt to promote a hidden agenda. Reading John 1:1 is a good litmus test (should include "the Word was God").
