Does heinz ketchup have garlic?

User Avatar
Yes, Heinz Ketchup is available in glass bottles in India with two varieties, one is the normal Heinz Ketchup, and one is an alternative which does not contain any traces of garlic or onion, two vital ingredients in the original ketchup. This is due to the large amount of Indians who refrain from eating garlic and onion for religious and cultural reasons. Heinz has acquired the former foods division of Glaxo India and gained the Complan, Glucon D, Glucon C, Sampriti Ghee, and Nycil products and brands.
Asked in The Difference Between, Ketchup

What is the difference between catsup and ketchup?

User Avatar
Basically, there is no difference. Catsup and ketchup are alternative spellings of the same word for a tomato-based condiment. The American Heritage Dictionary provides the following fascinating word history: The word ketchup exemplifies the types of modifications that can take place in borrowing—both of words and substances. The source of our word ketchup may be the Malay word kechap, possibly taken into Malay from the Cantonese dialect of Chinese. Kechap, like ketchup, was a sauce, but one without tomatoes; rather, it contained fish brine, herbs, and spices. Sailors seem to have brought the sauce to Europe, where it was made with locally available ingredients such as the juice of mushrooms or walnuts. At some unknown point, when the juice of tomatoes was first used, ketchup as we know it was born. But it is important to realize that in the 18th and 19th centuries ketchup was a generic term for sauces whose only common ingredient was vinegar. The word is first recorded in English in 1690 in the form catchup, in 1711 in the form ketchup, and in 1730 in the form catsup. All three spelling variants of this foreign borrowing remain current.

Can ketchup give you diarrhea?

User Avatar
Ketchup has a long shelf life. It lasts up to 2 years unopened and a year opened and refrigerated. It has a lot of vinegar in that preserves it. But mold can grow on the lid. If the bottle looks bloated or makes a popping sound when opened, throw the bottle away.
Asked in Urban Legends, History and Origins of Foods, Ketchup

What does the 57 on the Heinz Ketchup bottle mean?

User Avatar
In the early days of the Heinz company, they wanted to highlight the variety of their products. They chose the number 57 arbitrarily to show how many they had. The ad read "57 varieties" and the slogan "Heinz 57" stuck. The "57 varieties" referred to the number of products that they had, although at the time they did have more products than 57, but H.J. Heinz thought that it was a magical (faerie princess) number... An urban myth has it that if you tap the 57 on the side of the glass bottle in a restaurant, the ketchup will start to com out. This information is (not) yet to be evaluated by the FDA [Food and Drug Administration to nerd you out!] so there is no way to prove it.

One day. Henry and John heinz his brother were down Mr. Peterson's house looking for tomatoes. They planned to steal them. They took a box and started loading up on Mr. Peterson's tomatoes. As they were running away from the scene, mr. Peterson came outside and seen them both red handed. He started chasing them. As they were running, Bill dropped a tomato. Henry saw turned back and yelled to him "Get the tomato and catch up!!!" John ran back, went to grab the tomato and accidently stepped on it. But picked up the remains. They got away safely and figured they didn't want to let the remains to go to waste. They ate it and it was actually good! They decided they'd name it based on the incident. So ketchup was born! Asked in Condiments, Mustard, Ketchup

Why is ketchup better than mustard?

User Avatar
This is definitely an opinion based question. I guess those who choose ketchup would say it is better than mustard because it is not as spicy/sharp tasting, it has a sweeter and thicker texture than mustard. But again this is all opinion. But if you are looking at it health-wise, this statement would be false because mustard would be healthier for you since it has around 3 calories while ketchup has around 15.
