The job of the physical therapist is to prescribe different exercises in order to properly heal after the surgery. The exact physical therapy program will differ between each patient, based on their individual results. Also, the length of your physical therapy program will depend on how you progress through the different exercises. It is important to see a physical therapist after surgery to make sure that your body heals properly. If your surgeon for some reason does not send you to a physical therapist, make sure to request one.

If you have a torn ligament in your knee, you need to try really hard to not use your knee. It would be wise to go to physical therapy and consider getting in touch with a doctor that can monitor your progress. You may need six to eight weeks of therapy.

I don't know if they have been recalled yet so if you find out please let me know. My knee sucks. It hurts all the time, I get allot of fluid build up, and its so loose I can move my lower leg back and forth 3/4" and it makes a great deal of noise. I hope its recalled because if this is the best they have to offer they should stop offering it. I have had 26 surgeries now most being on my knees. 13 right and 8 left. I now have to have my left knee repaired and need to find out if there any mechanical problems associated with the Biomet Vanguard Knee.

Definitely go back to the doctors. There could be something wrong with the replacement. Book an appointment as soon as possible.

I have often heard about cortisone injections as an alternative to knee replacement but it is un heard of to have injection after the knee replacement.

What is the logic behind it?

Usually injections are taken to subside the pain that arise from contact of arthritic articular surfaces of knee bones.

But when knee replacement is already done I do not see a reason for cortisone injection.

At the same time if there is sudden severe pain in your knee after replacement surgery doctor might give you a shot of knee injection.

Another possibility is if you have partial knee replacement and non operated compartment of your knee joint troubling you.

The factors that count are your weight, activities, like walking, swimming, biking are all good but you should avoid jarring activites like running, tennis (singles), snow skiiing, ice skating...discuss activities with your doctor. Due to the nature of the replacement wearing out at some point the medical people like to wait as long as possible with your age so that you will not have to go through a revision surgery, after the parts wear out.
